Duties/Pligte:
Recruitment and Retention:

Establishing, optimising, and implementing a three-year (2025-2027) Recruitment and Retention Strategy of talent identification, scouting and recruitment that corresponds with SU's admissions policy and academic requirements. Working with the Netball Manager.
Collaborating with the Netball Manager to establish, optimise and implement a three-year (2025-2027) sport bursary budget in line with Maties Sport allocations that incentivises the recruitment, development and retention of ACI student-athlete players.
Implementing a long-term player development pathway for first year netball players that is aligned with the sustainable bursary budget.
Leading the Maties Netball Recruitment Committee (consisting of the First Team Head Coach, Assistant First Team coach, Netball Club Manager) to recruit junior and senior players to the Club who will grow within the Club in order to represent the priority teams.
Promoting the quality of opportunities for the ACI students as a priority strategic objective, setting up and developing a player pathway.
Working with the Netball Manager and the Senior Manager of Maties Sport High Performance in the facilitation, implementation, and monitoring of the annual sport bursary budget according to the Stellenbosch University and Maties Sport requirements for the final approval from the Chief-Director: Maties Sport.
Attending Campus League matches to broaden the recruitment pool of ACI players.

Coaching:

Coaching the Maties Netball First Team for the Varsity Sport Competition, including the annual pre- and in-tournament.
Coaching the Maties Netball First Team for the University Sport South Africa (USSA) competition, including pre- and in-tournament.
Coaching the Maties Netball First Team for the respective annual local leagues.
Performing required coaching sessions (team, positional, individual) with student-athletes, specifically ACI individuals, to be equipped and skilled to move to the top teams within the Maties Netball Club structure.
Chairing bi-weekly meetings with the Maties Netball Coaches and coaching support staff for planning practice sessions, as well as growth opportunities and the pathway for players to enhance retention.
Managing and being responsible for the full Maties Netball coaching programme which includes all teams, and implementing a coaching performance evaluation system to evaluate performance in line with Maties Sport and Maties Netball strategic objectives.
Establishing coaching mentorships and continued education plan within the Maties Netball Club coaching structures for all Maties Netball team coaches.
Developing and implementing a coaching development pathway and performance evaluation system, within the Maties Sport transformation strategy, for identified coaches within the current Maties Netball coaching structure.
Playing an active role in the management and continued education and development of all Maties Netball Club's team coaches in all the competitions.
Arranging and presenting two netball coaching workshops/forums and external trainings for Maties Netball coaches.
Hosting coaching courses for school and Club coaches to grow the relationship with the communities, especially within the ten local high schools.
Hosting two clinics to achieve the identified strategic commercial objective of Maties Netball.
Attending lower team matches and training.

Integrated Medicine and Science (IMAS) and Student-Athlete Support:

Managing and implementing an effective IMAS programme to ensure continued enhancement of performance in all competitions and leagues, in close collaboration with the Strength and Conditioning and medical staff of Maties Sport and Campus Health Services.
Ensuring individual performance assessments on all bursary student-athletes to guarantee commitment to the academic and hockey performance standards and coaching development programmes.
Ensuring that all bursary agreements are fully explained to players and signed by the incumbent and the player.
Ensuring the full participation of all student-athletes and actively promoting and engaging with the Maties Sport PACER programme aimed at ensuring both academic and holistic personal development for student-athletes, as well as coaches.
Supporting the empowerment of Maties Netball Team coaches, teams and student-athletes to optimise the use of evidence-based interventions that ensures the enhancement of athletic performance.
Supporting the Maties Sport Injury Clinic and injury management programme through injury reporting.
Contributing to the overall functioning of the Maties Netball annual performance plans and its future by accepting responsibilities for sustainability and adhering to a code of high-performance ethics.
Promoting Drug Free Sport amongst the student-athletes.

Operational Excellence:

Conducting weekly planning meetings with the Maties Netball First Team support staff of the HP squad.
Submitting reports and having monthly meetings with the Senior Manager of Maties Sport High Performance.
Submitting reports and having quarterly meetings with Senior Manager of Maties Sport High Performance and the Maties Netball Manager.
Submitting pre-season planning to the Netball Manager and Senior Manager of Maties Sport High Performance.
Being an actively participating and contributing member of the Maties Netball Club Committee.
Preparing relevant written reports for the Management Committee and Executive Committee meetings.
Collaborating with the Maties Netball Club Manager and Senior Manager of Maties Sport High Performance to maximise the HP IMAS budget and performance enhancement service interventions.
Designing a sustainable bursary budget application that aligns with the Maties Netball Club's three-year recruitment and retention strategy.
Working with the Maties Netball Manager and staff to provide strategic input and initiative in re-evaluating the Maties Netball Club's immediate three-year structure of competitions, league and residence participation to ensure long term financial sustainability.
Working with the Maties Netball Manager to create HP Profiles for the HP squad to collaborate with the Development and Alumni Relations office.

Performance Management:
An annual performance management review will take place and is to include the following:

Quarterly performance reviews to include the Head Coach, the Director: Maties Sport, the Senior Manager: High Performance Unit, and the Sport Manager.
A written report should be prepared by the Head Coach at least ten days prior to the date of the meeting.
The outcome of the performance management will determine the continuity of the remainder of the contract period.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes:

At least three years' experience in the delivery of high-performance coaching/assistant-coaching within the netball environment.
At least three years' experience in coaching a senior first team within the respective federation competition/league.
At least Level 2 NSA coaching accreditation.
The ability to work effectively as part of an integrated medicine and science and coaching team.
The ability to give strategic direction in an ever-increasing professional environment.
A participative and effective leadership and management style.
High level of management and leadership skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
The ability and sophistication needed to interact with business, government, federations/unions/franchises, and other national stakeholders.
Result-oriented.
Computer literacy with regard to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Administrative skills and the ability to provide accurate and informative written and verbal reports.
The ability to take initiative, be innovative and to function effectively under pressure.
The ability to prioritise effectively.

The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
Willingness and availability to work after hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
A valid driver's licence and own transport.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling:

NSA Level 3.
Applied knowledge and experience working with athletes on a development pathway.
Knowledge and understanding of university sport.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
