Job Purpose: We are seeking the services of a self-motivated and proactive branch librarian to work in a team at the Mowbray Campus of CPUT.The successful candidate needs to be service-oriented and manage the diverse information needs, learning, and teaching of the Faculty of Education as part of a team of Librarians.The successful candidate needs to co-ordinate the operational activities in the library that includes staffing and any other activities that allow the branch Library to support the goals of the university.The librarian would be expected to provide a wide range of services at this site and when needed at other sites of CPUT, particularly those supporting the Faculty of Education (e.g., Wellington campus).This position requires the Librarian to work on Saturdays and after-hours shifts when required. You will need to be flexible and adapt to the constant changes that Librarians face within the workplace and that may occur within CPUT. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: B Bibl or equivalent 4-year LIS qualification (B.Bibl, B.Inf (Hon) or PGDLIS)OR A 4-year BEd qualification with a postgraduate library qualification (PGDLIS)AND 3 years relevant experience in a Higher Education library environment, including collection development, research support, and training of students and staff.The person must be able and willing to work across different campuses of CPUT and on the after-hours shift roster when required.Paid-up member of LIASA.Recommendations: Postgraduate qualifications in LIS or relevant fields linked to the Faculty of Education will be an added advantage.Experience in supervising branch activities in a Higher Education Library environment.Experience in supporting training, collection development, and research in Higher Education Library.Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities: Develop, manage, and maintain relevant library collections related to the Faculty of Education in support of the learning and research focus areas.Deliver information literacy (Infolit) training to students and support future development in this Infolit offering at the university library.Deliver training programmes to postgraduate students and staff in support of research activities in the Faculty of Education that includes niche areas.Providing research support which includes scholarly communication, digital scholarship service, and research data management and metrics support activities.Assist researchers with literature searches and systematic reviews.Provide reference services for faculty information needs as required.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with lecturers and students.Support relevant projects at CPUT Libraries.Create, update, and manage LibGuides related to the Faculty of Education.Support the online client service initiatives.Be involved in advocacy activities in the promotion of the library services at the Mowbray Campus Library.Co-ordinate all staffing at the Mowbray branch, including after-hours service and client support.All tasks in any aspect of managing and supervising branch operations and facility management, service support, and support administration at the Librarian level, and as may be required from time to time in the work locations that require it.Interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a team.Building strategic work partnerships and relationships.Conflict management.Information monitoring.Planning and organizing.Mentoring and coaching skills.Knowledge of professional library practices and procedures.Knowledge of current issues and trends in academic librarianship related to research, learning, and teaching.Knowledge and understanding of the research process and methodology that include platforms used and advance training practices.Knowledge of information literacy concepts and training practices in a Higher Education Library.Excellent written and oral communication.Excellent interpersonal skills.Initiative, flexibility, and ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.Commitment to continual professional development, improvement, and learning.General Information: Closing Date: 20 October 2024
