Job Purpose
To teach subject areas in Retail Business Management and Marketing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels according to a syllabus and ensure updated and relevant workplace context.
To support the department and faculty to enhance the effectiveness of the academic project, including academic initiatives, community engagement, coordination of work integrated learning.
To undertake research and supervision of postgraduate students.
To continuously engage in personal and professional development.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum requirements: Lecturer
Master's degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting or equivalent Master's qualification.
At least two (2) years' relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education.
Recommended: Lecturer
An underpinning undergraduate qualification in Finance, Accounting or related field/discipline.
Ability to teach finance and accounting subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Knowledge of the higher education landscape in SA.
Evidence of research and publications.
Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (FtF and online learning).
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Teaching and Learning: Lectures both undergraduate and postgraduate subjects within the field of Marketing. Develop subject guides in compliance with University policies. Use appropriate teaching and learning methods, practices and technologies. Develop learning materials for students. Assist students with challenges in understanding the subject content and manage the appointment of tutors and/or mentors.
Academic Management: Development and Implementation of the department and faculty strategic goals in line with the institutional strategic goals. Represent the department at various committees.
Financial Management: Management of the budget.
Administration: Assist with the registration of students. Administer student attendance registers, assessment records and upload learners' results to the Marks Administration System. Set and conduct formative assessments. Examine and moderate summative assessments. Report progress on curriculum developments.
Community Service & Outreach: Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into the curriculum.
Counselling: Provide academic counselling and mentoring to learners. Identify students at risk & implement mitigation strategies.
Quality Assurance: Contribute to Quality Assurance through committee meetings and the submission of relevant documents, as requested. Monitor the impact of QA recommendations within the department and implement appropriate interventions.
Recruitment / Admissions / Marketing: Contribute to the planning for "Open Day" and attend CPUT's "Open Day" event.
Personal / Professional Development: Keep abreast with current developments in their field of study and its curricula implications. Engage in current professional development and other skills development activities.
Human Resources Management: Subscribe to and abide by the University performance management system and identify training needs for personal career development.
Industry Advisory Board and Partnerships: Liaise with commerce and industry regarding Experiential Training, new techniques/technologies and research projects.
Mentoring: Contribute towards the development of junior academic staff. Guide staff and assist in all aspects of learning material/curriculum development.
Research: Conduct research, supervise and conduct lectures with postgraduate students, publish regularly e.g., journal articles, books, chapters in books.
Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with university health and safety rules and regulations.
