The Department of Urban and Regional Planning forms part of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg, Doornfontein Campus. The Department is part of the cluster of the School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment. Moreover, it is one of the 11 planning institutions in South Africa offering programmes in Urban and Regional planning. The department is a member of the Association of African Planning Schools (AAPS) consisting of planning institutions in the African continent. It is accredited by the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN). All the staff in the department are highly qualified.
Position reports to the Head of Department and liaise with other Departmental stakeholders.
Responsibilities:Teaching and assessment of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the following disciplines (but not limited) will strongly be recommended for the possible candidate:
Architectural DesignDrawing Skills and TechniquesStudioUrban Information SystemsComputer Applications and Software KnowledgeStrategic PlanningUrban DesignLayout PlanningLocal Area AnalysisMinimum Requirements:Master's in Urban and Regional Planning, or Architecture and Planning or Urban Design or Equivalent.Completed or registration for PhD studies is an added advantage.Registered with relevant Professional Bodies, SACPLAN or SACAP as a Professional Planner, Architect Planner.Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.Good practical industry experience accompanied with a Portfolio of work.Record of research and at least 3 publications in accredited journals and peer-reviewed conferences.Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:Technology savvy and ability to work with ArcGIS/QGIS, AutoCAD, ARCHICAD, Revit and Autodesk software packages.Sharp and robust high level of communication skillsSound knowledge of planning lawSelf-motivated, leadership skillsDemonstrate sound work ethics and punctuality.Good interpersonal relations and effective organisational skillsClass and student management skillsRecommendations:Recent lecturing experience at undergraduate degree levels would be highly beneficial.Highly technical with proven practical experience.Proven research capabilities and administration.Proven ability to attract research funds.Postgraduate student supervisory experience.Enquiries:Enquiries regarding the job content: URP Head of Department: Prof T.N.
