Job Purpose
To support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake projects, research and innovation; perform academic administration, contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, Open Day to recruit students, and service-learning activities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A Master's Degree in Journalism/ Media Studies or closest related qualification relevant to the teaching of Broadcast Journalism in particular. (The candidate must obtain the relevant undergraduate underpinning qualification(s) within the field of study)
At least two (2) years' lecturing experience in this field in higher education environment
Recommendations
A working knowledge of software and equipment related to broadcast and online journalism is essential
Experience in Broadcast Journalism will be an added advantage
A doctoral qualification will be an added advantage
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Lecture subjects in the Journalism curriculum, in particular all components of Broadcast and Online Journalism in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study
Teach and assess Media Leadership, Media Innovation Management, Managing Communication Strategy, Positioning
Organisational Relationships, Communication and Media Practice and/or Research Methodology
Participate in curriculum development
Design, initiate and manage projects across the programme and department
Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties (including the effective Management of Marks Administration)
Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
Participate in research in any areas of the Media but in particular Broadcast and Online Journalism
Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into curriculum.
Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co-operative education, new techniques/technologies, and research projects
Take the lead in managing marketing and recruitment activities
Develop partnerships with other institution in higher education and industry for the purposes of knowledge interchange and collaboration on project-based learning and research
Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
