Your opportunity:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, and reporting to the IT Coordinator, the incumbent works within the IT group to support and maintain computer and other IT hardware and software. The incumbent must be prepared to assist all levels of users and assist other IT members with related tasks. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the information technology infrastructure (systems, servers, and networks).
The IT group supports a heterogeneous desktop computing environment encompassing users (faculty, administrative staff, and graduate students) for two departments in two buildings. The incumbent is expected to bring creativity and up-to-date knowledge to the development, maintenance, and support of leading edge computing solutions to the IT needs of forward-looking science departments.
Your responsibilities will include: Responding to end-user service requestsApplying established standards when resolving routine and documented end-user issuesTroubleshooting routine equipment repairsCoordinating the installation and implementation of new equipmentInstalling and configuring endpoint devices with applied security measuresTroubleshooting network performance issuesMonitoring the performance and integrity of serversServing as a technical resource on hardware and software related issuesEssential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum three years recent and relevant experience of providing IT support with Windows, Mac and UNIX in both desktop and server environmentsDemonstrated experience in various aspects of system and network administration in heterogeneous computing environments (TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, software integration and tuning, remote management, security).Experience removing viruses and malwareExperience with system administration on server systems (FreeBSD, Linux, VMware vSphere, Windows Server)Experience with Enterprise hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, Network Attached Storage, UPS)Experience with network services (NDS, DHCP, NAT, VPN, SSH, SNMP, SMTP, Windows Domain, CIFS/SMB, SQL database, logging)Demonstrated advanced skills with Windows, MacOS and Linux (e.g. Debian, Red Hat) on the desktopThorough knowledge of PC and Macintosh hardware and system softwareDemonstrated skills in Ethernet networking and troubleshooting both wired and wirelessExperience with Microsoft 365 including SharePoint and Microsoft Power PlatformExcellent organization and time-management skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent customer service and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate technical concepts to persons with limited technical backgroundsHigh degree of initiative and problem solving skillsTo be successful in this role you will be: AccountableApproachableOrganizedTeam playerClosing Date: 12/12/2024, 11:59PM ET
