Horticulturist

Our client, a major role player in the pome fruit industry, is seeking a Horticulturist to join their Technical Department. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, analytical, technology-oriented, and a dynamic team player. This position reports directly to the Technical Manager.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST THE FOLLOWING:BSc in Agriculture.Three to five years of experience is mandatory.Must be computer literate.Ability to handle pressure.Must be willing to do fieldwork.Willingness to work overtime.Strong knowledge in horticulture (major), soil science, and/or entomology.Physically fit and healthy to perform the required duties.Excellent observation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Good interpersonal skills (fluent in Afrikaans and English).Valid driver's licence.THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):Coordinating new variety evaluations, selective technical field days for growers, field trials as needed, and providing general support for growers concerning orchard husbandry practices.Carrying out preparatory tasks for the pack-shed and, when required, executing field trials as requested by the Technical Manager.Collecting and capturing pre- and post-harvest trial data accurately.Assisting in annual administration tasks, such as orchard census, crop estimation, maturity indexing, picking standards, and additional tasks as required by the pack-shed.Representing the client at industry events related to pre-harvest disciplines.
