Key Objective: Ensure a strong catalog offering through negotiating and clearing content rights.
Grow the commercial value of the company's licensing agreements with right holders.
Manage copyright compliance and legal matters regarding licensing and copyright.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee and report on the performance of the overall licensing strategy.
Effectively plan and execute in alignment with overall company strategy, implementing and monitoring initiatives that improve the performance of the content available on the service and ensure attractive licensing agreements.
Negotiate major licensing agreements and build and maintain relations with key right owners, including identifying key decision makers, preparing and negotiating term sheets with a strong business case to govern the licensing agreement, and securing long-term agreements with key global and African rightsholders.
Grow the commercial value from the company's licensing operations, including negotiating better commercials with right holders, increasing the company's ability to commercialize the rights in creative ways, and increasing the commercial value of the current licensing agreements with major right holders as well as with the long tail of fragmented African rights holders.
Lobby and represent the company in private and public forums, clearly communicating the value and influencing rights holders and industry professionals to understand the value of the business.
Manage the performance of the pan-African licensing team, including performance management, planning, and execution of new initiatives in alignment with the department objectives.
Requirements: Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in business, Law, Music Business, or a related field.
A master's degree or MBA is highly desirable.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the music industry, with a significant portion in licensing and rights management.
In-depth understanding of the African music market and the global music industry with a proven track record in negotiating and securing major licensing agreements with global and African right holders.
Experience in managing copyright compliance and legal matters regarding licensing.
Strong entrepreneurial drive with solid business acumen, the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to prepare and present compelling business cases.
Excellent relationship-building skills with key stakeholders, including right holders, industry professionals, and internal teams.
Leadership and team management skills with experience in performance management and strategic planning.
