Responsibilities:
Legal Strategy and Compliance:Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with the company's overall objectives.Ensure compliance with relevant mining laws, environmental regulations, labour laws, and other legal requirements.Monitor changes in legislation and advise management on potential impacts.Contract Management:Review, draft, and negotiate contracts related to mining operations, including joint ventures, supply agreements, and service contracts.Provide legal guidance during contract negotiations and dispute resolution.Risk Management:Identify legal risks associated with mining activities and develop risk mitigation strategies.Collaborate with other departments to assess and manage legal risks effectively.Litigation and Dispute Resolution:Manage legal disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation.Work closely with external legal counsel when necessary.Corporate Governance:Ensure compliance with corporate governance principles.Advise the board of directors on legal matters.Employee Relations:Provide legal guidance on employment matters, including labour disputes, disciplinary actions, and employee contracts.Collaborate with HR to ensure fair and legal employment practices.Environmental and Health & Safety Compliance:Advise on environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and community relations.Assist in obtaining necessary permits and licenses.Stakeholder Management:Engage with government agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders.Represent the company in legal matters externally.Team Leadership:Manage a team of legal professionals, including attorneys and paralegals.Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Qualifications:
Law Degree: A bachelor's degree in law (LLB) or equivalent.Admission as an Attorney: Must be admitted as an attorney in South Africa.Mining Industry Experience: Extensive experience in the mining sector.
