Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Graduate Chemist / Chemist at our oilfield services Laboratories at NOV's Flotta Test Facility in Orkney (UK). The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting laboratory-based work, consultancy, and site chemistry services for a diverse range of clients within the oil and gas, process and water treatment industries. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates with a strong foundation in analytical chemistry who are eager to apply their knowledge and grow their career in a supportive environment.ResponsibilitiesProvide laboratory support for all NOV UK (and further afield) enquiries/projects as required.Use analytical techniques and instrumentation such as gas chromatography (GC) / mass spectrometry (MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Infrared spectroscopy to investigate and measure chemical compositions.Contribute to the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to quality standards.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the successful completion of projects within specified timelines and budget constraints.Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting laboratory studies in accordance with NOV procedures and regulatory standards.Collaborate with the Chemistry team to develop detailed experimental procedures, sample preparation, analytical methods, and data analysis interrogation and reporting.Monitor and document study progress, including sample tracking, data collection, and analysis, while maintaining detailed records of all experimental procedures.Review and analyse study data, prepare comprehensive reports and summaries for clients.Qualifications And ExperienceChemistry / science degree in a relevant discipline.Familiarity with analytical equipment, method development, and data analysis.Some knowledge of different laboratory testing methods and relevant analytical techniques.Understanding of regulations and experience working in a laboratory is desirable.Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively.Proficiency in using laboratory software and data analysis tools is desirable.A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and project management.This position offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to gain hands-on experience in an oilfield laboratory, while contributing to the advancement of scientific research and regulatory compliance.
