An innovative recycling plant located on the Dolphin Coast, KZN, is seeking a local GMR 2.1 Maintenance Manager to play a pivotal role in their journey into the African recycling market. The plant has an output of 35,000 tonnes of recycled PET material.As Maintenance Manager, you will develop the maintenance structures and processes to start up our recycling facility and ensure high machine availability for all infrastructure and recycling production equipment while continuously improving the balance between high machine availability and controlled maintenance costs. You will ensure that all maintenance is performed under safe working conditions and act as the GMR 2.1 for the plant, which has a total energy consumption of more than 3000 kW (approx. 2.5 MW electrical and 800 kW heat on a continuous basis).Tasks & Responsibilities:Support the Plant Engineer for the installation of the infrastructure equipment by being on site to guide and supervise the companies installing the equipment.Lead a maintenance team consisting of mechanical and electrical staff working mainly in 4 shifts and partially in a day shift, including maintenance store management.Ensure that critical infrastructure on which the whole plant depends, such as generators, compressors, chillers, coolers, and wastewater treatment, has an OEE close to 100%.Oversee daily routine maintenance, breakdown repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure timely delivery and efficient operation by the production team.Cooperate with the Production department to align maintenance versus production time of equipment and ensure quality-compliant production.Work with the Quality department to address Product Quality problems related to equipment issues.Manage the maintenance team including recruitment, training needs assessment, skill development, disciplinary actions, performance evaluation, and shift handover.Establish internal procedures for 5S and Health & Safety within the Maintenance department and support it throughout the plant.Educational Background:Formal qualification as a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer (Degree).Qualification to be appointed as a GMR 2.1 for the plant with more than 3000 kW energy consumption.A minimum of 10 years' experience in an international manufacturing company, preferably in plastic recycling, plastic industry, food packaging, or a comparable industry with conveyors, extruders, and similar equipment in production.Ideally, experience in new plant set-up, growth, and expansion of a newly created operation/plant.Proven leadership experience and ability to train and develop the production team.Deep understanding of production performance metrics, 5S and Health & Safety practices.Professionalism and dedication to excellence in customer care.Ability to work independently to tight deadlines and a proactive approach to problem-solving.Willingness to work in a challenging environment.Only local candidates will be eligible for shortlisting, and only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
