This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Displays Supervisor with a passion for animals and animal conservation to join our zoological team at the Blue Planet Aquarium.

RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Curator in the management of the zoo team including training.Ensure the Zoological department and all team members including volunteers and work experience comply with HSE regulations and company health and safety procedures whilst on the premises and when undertaking all tasks.Co-ordinate the volunteer and work experience training programs.Assist the Curator in the day-to-day management of animal husbandry through a hands-on approach.Undertake a daily Exhibit inspection, allocate daily tasks to the Zoological team and ensure remedial action is taken on any issues. Pass on any concerns to Curator or Park Director where appropriate.To continuously maintain and improve display standards throughout the collection with special interest in specific exhibits as agreed with the Curator.Oversee the monitoring of the water quality and environmental controls throughout the collection and act on any issues highlighted by zoological team.Assist the Zoological team in carrying out pump and plant room maintenance.Assist with operating and maintaining our ocean display.Ensure contact with the company vet is maintained and ensure all medicine administration and veterinary procedures carried out comply with veterinary advice and guidance.Assist the Curator to monitor feeding regimes ensuring the nutritional needs of all livestock are met and throughout the collection and monitor health issues related to diet where applicable.To have full understanding of the Zoo Licence in order to assist the Curator in ensuring compliance with all regulations set out in addition to other statutory regulations.Ensure that all procedure regarding Health and Safety are followed.To provide cover for environmental, intruder and fire alarm call outs.Assume the role of Duty Manager according to the appropriate Rota.Person Spec Qualification in Marine Biology/Zoology/Ecology/Marine Sciences or similar.A passion for aquatic life.3 years working within a similar industry in an aquarist role or similar.Knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry, managing water chemistry, operation of complex life support systems and their maintenance.Knowledge of animal acquisition, transportation, quarantining and experience of moving a variety of fish and invertebrate species.Experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of a wide variety of aquatic systems.Health and Safety knowledge.Full, clean Driving Licence.Be able to lift bags of salt of up to 20kg.Strong communicator who can lead, support and develop the displays team.Confident in MS Office and Excel.DMZAA - Diploma in the management of zoo, and aquarium animals or a willingness to complete DMZAA.Divemaster level or higher or a willingness to complete dive training.Aspro UK are an equal opportunity employer.
