Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description As our Fitter, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Safety, Health, and Environment
Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
Exemplify all relevant safety standards and procedures as a positive example for learners to follow and prioritize in their work practices.
Performance and Delivery
Pipefitting: Select and cut pipes, install pipe supports, and connect pipes to fixtures, valves, and other components during the installation and maintenance of piping systems.
Structural Fitting: Assemble and install structural components, such as beams, columns, and frameworks.
Machinery Installation: Assemble and install machinery and mechanical equipment, which includes aligning and securing components to ensure proper functionality.
Welding: Use welding techniques to join metal components, crucial for creating solid and durable connections in structures, piping systems, or machinery.
Alignment and Calibration: Use precision tools and instruments to align and calibrate machinery components.
Handover: Ensure proper communication and handover of outstanding tasks between shifts and day-shift teams.
Equipment Control
Ensure effective equipment and related machinery maintenance to ensure optimal utilization and availability toward maximizing production and throughput schedules.
The Work: Key Outputs and Accountabilities
Identify and report defects, equipment failures, and time required to repair to the Supervisor to enable applicable decision-making, action planning, and problem resolution.
Maintenance Efficiency
Support HME/Plant personnel by ensuring that the necessary HME/Plant and equipment maintenance preparations and maintenance tasks follow SMP (Standard Maintenance Practice) to improve work practices and operational targets.
Ensure installations, commissioning of infrastructure, and post-installation work testing for functionality are executed following specifications to meet deadlines and budget requirements.
Assistance
Ensure oil samples are taken and labeled following workshop procedures to enable the Laboratory to conduct the necessary analysis and testing.
Assist the supervisor and co-workers according to their level/area of competence and follow company policies when instructed or during the absence of the responsible person to ensure the achievement of functional objectives.
This role is in the Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department on a band J4 level reporting to the Engineering Supervisor
Qualifications
Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical
Trade Certificate as Fitter
SA Drivers Licence
Technical Knowledge
2 Years' operational maintenance experience as a Fitter.
Essential skills and techniques used by artisans.
Safety standards and regulations applicable to the work.
Equipment used in the specific field of work.
Various oil sampling methodologies and their applications.
Knowledge of working on elevators, screens, pumps, and shuttle cars (Advantageous)
