CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The core purpose of this job is to strategically position Nelson Mandela University through the development and implementation of communication plans, campaigns, content creation and hosting of institutional events that align with the mission, vision, values, ethos and strategic growth drivers of the institution.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Communication and Events portfolios for Nelson Mandela University within the Communication and Marketing portfolio.Enable and support learning and teaching, research, innovation and internationalisation, engagement and transformation, to enhance the academic project and advance institutional strategic objectives through internal and external communication, events and campaigns.Enable, support and enhance institutional campus objectives.Enhance resource stewardship and mobilisation in People & Operations within the Communication and Marketing Department.Grow and entrench the Nelson Mandela University profile and positioning in line with the vision, mission, values and strategic priorities.CORE COMPETENCIES Knowledge of and in-depth experience of communication.Knowledge of the higher education sector and the South African political and social context.Strong experience in strategic planning.Strong management and analytical skills.Ability to perform, multi-task and lead under pressure.Leadership and hands-on experience in project planning, inclusive of content creation, events, publications and campaigns.Strong networking and relationship building skills.Excellent writing skills and strong verbal (presentation) skills.Knowledge of the South African media environment, including social media.REQUIREMENTS Postgraduate qualification preferably in Communication, Journalism or Public Relations with six to eight years relevant management experience during which core communication, marketing and event competencies have been gained.Excellent ability to communicate (verbal, written) with different stakeholders.Valid code 08 drivers and computer literacy in MS products.SCREENING QUESTIONS Do you have an honours degree in Journalism / Communication or Public Relations?Do you have six-eight years management experience in events management, external and internal communications and the production of publications?ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Equity targeted groups to be specified on the advert.
