Job Purpose The Faculty of Informatics & Design is looking to appoint a Faculty Research Coordinator for a period of five (5) years. The incumbent will be responsible for promoting research, innovation, and technology in the Faculty through developing the research capacity and skills of staff and students in order to achieve the targeted research outputs of the Faculty. They will also be responsible for creating a vibrant and conclusive research environment in the Faculty. The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership and mentorship to support various initiatives.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience A Doctoral Degree in a discipline applicable and related to the Faculty of Informatics & Design (i.e., Media, Information Technology, Design, Urban & Regional Planning & Architectural Technology)At least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in a tertiary institutionAt least two (2) years' management experienceSuccessful supervision of post-graduates to completionRecord of publications in peer-reviewed journalsExposure in proposal writing and research funding applicationsRecommendation Successful research grants track recordKey Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Overall leadership and responsibility for Research, Technology, Innovation, and Partnership in the faculty with oversight from the DeanManage general research activities in the Faculty (e.g., chairing Faculty proposal defences; maintaining a database for research funding, etc.)Provide appropriate academic and administrative leadershipProvide oversight in conjunction with heads of departments for the appointment of Adjunct Professors, Research Fellows, and postdoctoral fellowsEvaluate ConfCom and URF applicationsChair Faculty Research CommitteeRepresent the Faculty in appropriate Committees (including regional and national committees)Measure and report on RTIP progress to relevant stakeholder and institutional committeesParticipate in quality assurance activitiesManage the Faculty research fundAssist in the research policy development of the UniversityPromote research development of staff and studentsMaximize education and research opportunities and support research uptake initiativesLiaise between the institutional research office and FacultyCoordinate research colloquia and workshops for the FacultyCoach and mentor inexperienced researchersDevelop and maintain linkages with industry, professional bodies, and promote community participationPerform other functions as may be assigned by the DeanSkills Required Leadership SkillsGood organizational and planning skillsCoaching & Mentoring SkillsBuilding PartnershipsStrategic decision-makingTechnical/professional knowledgeInterpersonal & Conflict Management skillsStrong learner focusReport writing skillsAbility to work independentlyAbility to work under pressureGeneral Information Closing Date: 20 October 2024
