Our Product Technology Team is looking for a Laboratory Technician to provide a textile laboratory service in accordance to SABS and ISO Standards and processes in support of the Company's product strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct tests and assessments to ensure compliance with predetermined standards (SABS & ISO)To maintain accurate and timely record keeping of tests and resultsTo ensure that the testing and assessment environment functions effectively in accordance with the predetermined housekeeping and maintenance planTo provide general assistance to the Product Technologists withFabric related projects and all other general technology administration (E.g. buddy system, samples to GPS & UTI offices)Skills required: A technical knowledge of different types of textilesA working knowledge of testing equipment and testing procedures (incl. fabric analysis, performance & chemical tests)Capturing test results and preparing specimens and samples for testingPerform laboratory testsaccurately capture, interpret and analyse data (i.e. pilling, colour fastness)Work independently, as well as be a team playerCommunicate effectively (both verbal and written)Time Management skillsPlanning & Organising SkillsWorking experience in the latest Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word & Excel)Strong Administrative SkillsA high energy level to cope with the constant deadlinesA service-orientationA strong detail-orientationA sense of urgencyThe ability to be flexibleAn understanding of the product end-usesEssential: Minimum 3 years' laboratory experience with testing according to ISO standardsPrevious experience in product and/or textile quality controlPrevious experience in a clothing/homeware manufacturing and/or retail environmentExposure to textile dyeing, printing and finishing processesExposure to textile developmentAdvantageous to have exposure to a chemical labQualifications: A Grade 12 Certificate/Matric is a minimum requirementDiploma in Textile Technology ORRelevant qualification in clothing production or clothing management, preferably with the following subjects:Manufacturing technologyGarment construction and engineeringTextiles (Fibres & Yarns)Certificate in Fibres and FabricRelevant SADFA Certificate (dyeing, printing & finishing)CSIR - Laboratory Accredited Certificate
