ABOUT WESSELS: The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese-rich Kalahari Basin, in the country's Northern Cape, which is home to 80 percent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine, which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa. WHAT SOUTH32 OFFERS: Eligible employees will receive an employer contribution towards the company-elected retirement fund. ABOUT THE ROLE: This role is a permanent full-time position. As an Environmental Officer, you will be responsible for executing environmental-related tasks to ensure compliance with environmental legislation in general and specific compliance with Hotazel Manganese Mines authorizations and South32 Standards. Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: Implement procedural, reporting, and monitoring requirements as prescribed by Environmental Legislation and applicable Regulations, and South32 standards; Assist in reviewing and refining Environmental Management Risk Assessments and Plans; Conduct, coordinate, and participate in Environmental Audits and Environmental Compliance Reviews and formally report findings, formulate actions, and follow-up on action close-out; Monitor compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements in the workplace; Manage environmental consultants and contractors in line with the mine's legal compliance and operational requirements; Assist in developing and driving continuous improvement processes. ABOUT YOU: You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Environmental Management in the mining industry; Knowledge and understanding of SA legislation, predominantly Environmental Legislation and Regulations; Knowledge and understanding of Basic workplace Health, Safety, and Environmental principles; Knowledge and understanding of Environmental Impacts and aspects, Hazard identification, and risk assessment; Knowledge and understanding of operations in a mining environment; Valid driver's license. Qualifications for this role are: Serious contenders will have a Degree/Diploma in Natural and/or Environmental Sciences.
