Company Description We have an exciting opportunity for a Emergency Response Coordinator. The purpose of this role is to develop the three-month mine plan, in line with the budget 12-month plan, which can be used as output for the week planning horizon.
Kumba Iron Ore We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job DescriptionAs our Emergency Response Coordinator, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Performance and DeliverySafe and Healthy Work EnvironmentConsistently apply safety and health principles in all site interactions within and beyond the site Supervisor's work area.Identify specific risks within the working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/systems to avoid these risks.Ensure mining plans and designs adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards and propose measures to mitigate potential risks.Adhere to all health and safety practices requirements and promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.Discuss violations and unsafe conditions with the section's representative; make recommendations and provide instructions on emergency response practices.Present and explain fire/life safety code, emergency preparedness, and response information to the mine's facility management.Attend training classes to maintain current knowledge of fire prevention, safety, and firefighting procedures.Conduct fire apparatus inspections & compliance follow-ups to ensure corrective actions are taken where violations are found.Conduct PTOs regularly to ensure compliance with the emergency response program.Perform other inspection and safety duties as required for client facilities.Emergency PreparednessEstablish and coordinate shift training programs.Prevent and eliminate fires and fatalities at the business unit by ensuring fires are extinguished quickly and with minimal damage.Ensure that emergency response equipment is always operational to prevent and minimize property damage and to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.Emergency Response Equipment InspectionsImplement a program to inspect new and existing buildings and structures for compliance with fire standards, codes of practice, and regulations.Inspect and maintain all emergency response equipment according to schedules and interface with sections to ensure compliance.Conduct daily inspections, maintenance, and tests of firefighting equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes of practice, standards, and procedures.Implement and execute an inspection program for emergency response routes and collection points for all buildings, structures, and working environments.Interpret various codes and standards for the mine and recommend fire protection systems that meet appropriate requirements.Implement and execute an emergency preparedness and response program for properties storing, managing, and using hazardous materials to ensure compliance with laws, codes of practice, and regulations.Maintain emergency response records and reports.Conduct fire prevention/life safety public education programs.Compile presentations and demonstrations on emergency preparedness and response for the general workforce population at various mine facilities.Develop and review emergency response plans.Stakeholder CollaborationProvide expert advice to supervisors and co-workers to comply with company policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness and response program guidelines.Take on the role of incident commander during emergencies.Be ready to respond to mine emergencies as necessary.Create, revise, and authorize emergency response plans for the mine's facilities.Carry out any other duties and tasks as instructed by management.This role is in the SHEPS & Contractor Management discipline at a 6.10 level reporting to Section Manager Fire Prevention. QualificationsRelevant National Diploma or Higher Diploma in Fire Technology/Fire EngineeringCode C1 Driver's licenseValid Medical CertificateFirefighting level 2Hazmat Operations CertificateBasic Ambulance Assistant with valid HPCSA membershipRegistration with SAESI (advantage)Technical KnowledgeDemonstrated 3-5 years of hands-on experience leading operational firefighting activities.Proficiency in understanding and applying the National Health Management Act 61 of 2003 and its accompanying regulations.Knowledge of the Standard for the Organization and Deployment of Fire Suppression Operations.Familiarity with Emergency Medical Operations and Special Operations to the Public by Career Fire Departments as per NFPA 1710.Understanding of NFPA 1561, Standard on Emergency Services Incident Management System and Command Safety.Proficiency in the National building regulation- SANS 10400.Knowledge of the guidelines to produce reconditioned fire-fighting equipment as per SANS 1475.Understanding company policies and procedures.Proficiency in firefighting equipment and procedures.Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.Additional InformationWho we are?
