Purpose of this Role:
Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment. This role is crucial for ensuring that electrical systems are safe, functional, and efficient.
Span of Control:
This position will form part of the Engineering department and will report to the Electrical Foreman.
Key Accountabilities and Outputs:
Installations and Repairs: Install wiring, outlets, switches, and other electrical components in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Work with various electrical systems, including lighting, heating, and power distribution. Responsible for diagnosing problems and making necessary repairs, which can involve fixing faulty wiring, repairing damaged electrical components, or addressing issues that cause power outages.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance to ensure electrical systems are operating correctly and efficiently. This might include inspecting systems, replacing worn-out parts, and upgrading components to meet current safety and compliance standards.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all electrical work complies with safety codes and regulations. Responsible for implementing safety measures to prevent electrical hazards, such as short circuits or electrical fires.
Consultation and Training: Offer advice on electrical system design, energy efficiency, and upgrades. Help clients understand their electrical needs and recommend solutions that meet their requirements.
Support and Training: Direct and train Electrical Assistants to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Use a variety of tools and equipment including measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment. Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging trenches and moving heavy objects. Aid during emergencies by operating floodlights, generators, and other necessary tasks.
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12/Matric with Math and Science is essential.
Completion of a recognized Electrical Apprenticeship is essential.
Excellent hand-eye coordination is essential.
A minimum of 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment is preferable.
Strong understanding of electrical systems is essential.
Good knowledge of various test equipment is essential.
Must be flexible to work shutdowns, available to be on standby, and work on weekends.
