The mandate of the OID is to support the Faculty's commitment to lead in the area of equity, inclusion and diversity, and to create and promote innovative and accountable diversity and equity related programming in collaboration with other members of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine community as well as external partners.As EDI Communications and Events Officer, you will work directly with the Inclusion and Diversity Portfolio offices, our Faculty's central communications office (MedComms) and department communications officers to advance EDI-related messages, stories, and other forms of communications. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic conception, implementation and evaluation of select Faculty-wide events to raise awareness about important and timely EDI issues.Your responsibilities will include:Developing content for marketing and promotional materials and implementing a digital media plan that supports strategyLiaising with EDI leads, MedComms and departments to pitch stories and promote equity/diversity initiativesOrganizing select equity-related events in collaboration with departments and units across the FacultyConducting interviews with leaders, faculty, staff and students for University and external publicationWriting and editing news and feature stories to advance communications objectivesWorking with the Inclusion and Diversity Portfolio leadership and MedComms on design and production of reports, resources and websitesProviding support and guidance to learner-led communications and events initiativesEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experienceMinimum four years of relevant communications experience developing strategies, plans and resources to support complex issues related to equity, diversity and inclusionProven experience writing concisely and to deadline; conducting interviews, writing news and feature stories and supporting the production of reports, resources and websitesDemonstrated success conceptualizing and planning equity-related events and programmingKnowledge and experience managing social media channels and/or developing social media contentDemonstrated experience tracking and reporting on meaningful metricsExperience making recommendations for improvements based on insights, best practices and objectivesExperience acting as a subject matter expert on content creation, visual layout, accessible design and brand identity and messagingAdvanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, social media, content management systems and graphic design software (Adobe, Canva)Superb communications skills, including the ability to concisely summarize information in presentations and write for various formats and channelsAbility to identify good story opportunities; excellent research, interviewing, writing, editing, and print design/layout skills are essentialMust be creative, resourceful and solutions-orientedA self-starter possessing the ability to work independently in a high-profile, time-sensitive environment and deal with competing prioritiesMust be an enthusiastic and energetic team player who works collaboratively and diplomatically in a complex multi-stakeholder environmentWillingness to develop and share technological expertiseEffective problem solving, tact, discretion and good judgement in dealing with confidential and sensitive situationsAssets (Nonessential):Knowledge and understanding of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and its hospital partnersApplicable experience in an academic or health care settingTo be successful in this role you will be:ArticulateInsightfulPerceptiveResourcefulClosing Date: 09/09/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 11 -- $75,223. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $96,196.All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.Diversity StatementThe University of Toronto embraces Diversity and is building a culture of belonging that increases our capacity to effectively address and serve the interests of our global community.
