Description: The University of Toronto is a pioneering institution in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Ecosystem Manager will play a crucial role in curating and managing the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus ecosystem. With an emphasis on artificial intelligence and the life sciences sectors, the Manager will be responsible for fostering collaboration; driving engagement; and optimizing the development and growth of our community of innovators and mission-aligned partners.
The incumbent will work closely with industry leaders, research institutions, tenants, and community stakeholders to create an environment that supports the advancement of scientific research, product development, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization. The incumbent will support and promote the success of the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus, which includes spaces for events, startups and scale-ups, and mission-aligned partners and tenants. The incumbent has oversight and executes on various external and internal funding programs designed to support the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus and build a community of innovators and entrepreneurs, advancing the culture of innovation at the university at large.
The incumbent works in a highly dynamic environment that requires a high degree of collaboration, sensitivity, responsiveness, and a need to maintain strict confidentiality. The incumbent must present a professional image by interacting knowledgeably and courteously with people including senior administrators, industry, faculty, staff, students, sponsors, government representatives, and other external stakeholders. The incumbent must be a highly collaborative, motivated, and energetic individual who enjoys the challenge of working in a fast-paced environment.
The incumbent supports the advancement of the University's standing as a leading global institution in the translation of academic research into economic and entrepreneurial opportunities and to advance the use of University knowledge towards the generation of companies, jobs, and prosperity in Canada.
Essential Qualifications: EDUCATION:
Post graduate degree in science, engineering, and/or business, or the equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years' relevant experience within industry, not-for-profit, academic, or government developing and implementing various funding programs which promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and/or research commercialization including company creation, early-stage financing, venture capital.Demonstrated experience in financial management; prior staff management experience (unionized environment is preferred) and application of HR policies and practices.SKILLS: Proven experience in ecosystem management, community development, or a related role within the AI or life sciences industries.Strong understanding of the AI and life sciences industries, including trends, challenges, and opportunities.Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute innovative strategies to drive ecosystem growth and success.Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.Analytical mindset with experience in data analysis, market research, and performance measurement and demonstrated ability to solve problems in a creative and effective manner.Excellent research, analytical, negotiation, entrepreneurial, organizational; excellent oral and written communication skills.Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with a strong degree of initiative while also being an effective team player.OTHER: Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and judgment, including the ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders in a manner which facilitates collaboration and consensus building, to identify and build on areas of common interest, and to articulate a compelling case for the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus.Closing Date: 12/02/2024, 11:59 PM ET
