THINK requires a District TB Technical Manager to be based in Sasolburg. The District TB Technical Manager is responsible for providing technical guidance on both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB care, to facilitate more efficient and effective collaboration and mechanisms for the implementation of the District TB programme and improve quality of services.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
District technical leadership and managerial oversight in the technical implementation of project strategy, in alignment with the Project's key objectives and expected outcomes.
Provide technical support to District programmes, focusing on quality of TB services.
Interpret and use strategic information to strengthen the TB Programme.
Identify District level gaps in the TB Programme and respond by providing technical assistance to address these gaps.
Ensure that District TB Programmes are implemented in accordance with the latest DOH guidelines, and guided through WHO and international best practices.
Lead on technical aspects of the Programme, including TB Mortality Audits; Cohort Reviews and Clinical Audits in the District.
Provide technical support to improve TB and drug-resistant TB case detection through the FAST approach and other strategies, including digital CXR, TUTT, LF-LAM implementation in the District.
Provide technical support to ensure effective linkage to care, TB Contact Management and TPT implementation in the District.
Support the decentralisation of drug-resistant TB treatment to Decentralised sites, ensuring all clinicians treating DR-TB patients are adequately trained and mentored on DR-TB management.
Provide expert TB medical advice to program training and staff development as well as program oversight.
Train and support members of DOH facilities in TB management and programme principles.
Engage regularly with the DOH District Health Management teams and DOH District TB Coordinators.
Provide regular feedback to DOH TB Management Teams on programme implementation and identified gaps in the TB service.
Foster relationships with district and provincial DOH, including clinical staff and medical practitioners.
Support District Level TB meetings and provide input, as required.
Collaborate with other TB/HIV implementing partners, and provide technical guidance, as required.
Provide regular reports to TB Technical Lead on the progress of programmes and services.
Engage with the Private Sector, as required.
Participate or represent the project in conferences.
Support, train and mentor programme staff on TB management and programme principles.
Capacity building through attending appropriate training programmes.
Participate in the recruitment and training of new programme staff.
Ensure THINK vision, mission and values are reflected in all job outcomes.
Mentor and teach other staff in TB Programme management and medical knowledge.
Mentor and support members of co-treating facilities in TB Programme principles.
Facilitate trainings to ensure all staff have updated medical knowledge and protocol training.
Support, train and mentor programme staff based at supported facilities throughout the district.
Requirements:
MBCHB, registration with the HPCSA is preferred.
Hands-on experience in TB case management and direct program implementation.
Certification or training in TB management from a recognised institution.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in TB control or a related public health program at a district or higher level.
Comprehensive understanding of the national and international TB guidelines and protocols.
Demonstrated experience in managing clinical teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including community health workers, NGOs, and government entities.
Experience in the monitoring and evaluation of TB programs, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in creating technical reports, training materials, and other program-related documents.
Proficient in using MS Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Familiarity with health data management systems and software.
Strong team leadership abilities and capability to work well in a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to work with diverse groups, including patients, healthcare workers, and policy-makers.
Commitment to stay updated with the latest in TB research, policies, and practices through regular training and workshops.
Experience in South Africa public health system is desirable.
