About this career opportunity
We have a Distribution and Transmission Design Engineer position in the Energy team providing structural design for powerlines and substations as a consultant. Responsibilities include:
Design of substation equipment and line termination gantry structures & Cable Sealing Ends.
Design powerlines with PLS-CADD and powerline towers with PLS-Tower.
Sag & tension calculations.
Catenary Support System design.
Line Profiling.
Gantry analysis.
Tower setting levels.
Environmental loads.
Insulator set design.
Overhead Line Wire Clearance.
Route plans.
Material Quantification.
Short Circuit Analysis.
Design of powerline structural foundations, including piled, pad, and rock-anchor foundations.
Investigation and proposed remedial actions for damaged or corroded structures.
Preparation and checking of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports, and other written documents.
Design and checking of detailed allocation and construction design drawings.
Production of design concepts, drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
Participation in HAZID and Risk reviews.
Provide a technical interface with 3rd parties.
Support during construction phase delivery.
Host and attend utility meetings, Design Risk & Hazard review, Monthly and Health and Safety meetings.
This position will be based in the Johannesburg Office (flexible home working) and integrated within a wider Energy team based in South Africa.
Is this role right for you?
A BSc or BEng, PR.Eng; a Masters is advantageous.
A Professional Registration with recognizable experience.
Good Programme/project delivery experience.
An understanding of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and South African National Standards (SANS).
Proficiency in associated technical specifications from clients such as National Grid or others.
