Reference Number: APR/001/2024 All-inclusive remuneration package of R1216 824.00 per annum The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a highly motivated professional to provide managerial leadership and strategic direction to SANBI's Green Climate Fund programme of work, focusing on leading and directing the Adaptation Policy and Resourcing (APR) Division's grant management and operations, including the coordination of accreditation with global funds, grant management, compliance and reporting processes, proposal development, the development of strategic relationships, and the provision of technical and strategic support as required.
This position requires a postgraduate degree in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or an equivalent and relevant postgraduate qualification at NQF level 8. A relevant postgraduate qualification at NQF level 9 will be an added advantage. This position also requires a minimum of 10 years of work experience in the relevant field, with 5 years at middle management level. The successful candidate will be required to acquire a Senior Management Service Pre-entry Certificate offered by the National School of Government before assumption of duty.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: An excellent knowledge of climate change adaptation and nature-based solutions; extensive knowledge of the science-policy interface for biodiversity and climate change adaptation; experience developing and reporting on large foreign donor-funded proposals; knowledge about public sector governance and operational policies and processes including risk management and compliance, human resources, procurement, and financial management policies; stakeholder engagement and relationship building; strong leadership capabilities and management skills; professional writing and editing skills; strong project management skills; ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team; reliability; and the ability to solve complex and challenging problems. Advanced planning, organizing, interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); computer literacy; and experience in the application of software tools including MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, and Outlook are essential. The possession of a valid driver's license and a willingness to travel is essential.
