This leading English-medium South African public boys school has a vacancy for a Director of Basketball.
This is a School Governing Body position.
The appointment will be made as of 1 January 2025.
This is a fixed-term contract (negotiable) with long term possibilities.
Minimum Requirement, Qualifications and Experience for this position: Minimum of three years experience managing a basketball programme.Strong work ethic, communication, management and motivational skills.Willing to travel with basketball teams on tour and spend time away from home.Willing to be involved in the provincial basketball structures.Evidence of all coaching courses and certificates obtained in the field of basketball coaching.Evidence of involvement and experience in coaching and/or selection at provincial level. Appropriate teaching qualification or in the process of obtaining a valid teaching qualification will be preferable and considered an advantage.Main Responsibilities: BasketballTo improve the calibre of basketball players and coaches in the long term so as to ensure the continued positive growth and development of the sport at the school.The management, development and skill enhancement of players and coaches across all age groups.The planning, development and implementation of training plans and practice schedules for all teams at all levels.To develop players to play at provincial level and to have a close and healthy working relationship with the provincial union.To ensure the use of relevant technology to record and analyse matches for the 1 st and all other A teams.To organise and manage all aspects of match days.To organise and manage all aspects of PBHS basketball festivals and tournaments.The full financial planning, control and accountability of the basketball budget. This includes all tours, festivals and the day-to-day running of basketball.To oversee and manage the use and development of all basketball facilities.The marketing of basketball to attract top primary school boys to the School. This could entail attending festivals and tournaments, visiting primary schools and offering coaching clinics at the school for primary school boys.To retain the important ethos that sport is played for educational purposes and that playing basketball is just one facet of the balanced Boys High curriculum.To report to, work closely with, liaise and provide feedback to the Deputy Headmaster in Charge of Sport.The Director of Basketball will not necessarily be required to coach any specific team, but will be required to enhance coaching and performance at all levels.The ability for the appointed candidate to be part of the academic programme of the school will be considered an advantage. A reduced teaching load in his/her subject of specialisation will be allocated. Teaching, assessment, planning and preparation for all classes would be required.
