POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Advancement, the Director, Donor Relations is an integral part of the Advancement leadership team. Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and the Director Development; Director, Alumni Relations and Director, Advancement Communications, s/he leads a team of donor stewardship, events, and database professionals providing support to our team of fundraisers for all fundraising activities encompassing major gifts and annual giving for the Rotman School of Management and Rotman Commerce. The primary goal of the Donor Relations team is to maximize the fundraising, programming and engagement goals of Rotman Advancement and providing a vital connection between donor engagement, qualification, cultivation and stewardship and fundraising. Leading and managing the Donor Relations team and working in tandem with the Director, Development, Director, Alumni, Director, Advancement Communications and the Advancement team, the Director Donor Relations is responsible for establishing the strategies and initiatives that foster donor and stakeholder engagement, efficient work flow and responsiveness that supports the diverse requirements of the Development team. This includes donor and stakeholder cultivation, stewardship, strategic development and execution of recognition events, as well as data management, reporting and oversight of the Donor Financial Reports. The overall objective is to enhance and enable the fundraising capability of the School, plan and design strategies for the operations and activities that support the development and maintenance of good relations with all levels of potential donors and stakeholders. S/he will provide leadership and professional advice and will liaise with the University's Division of Development. The Director, Donor Relations also provides sound business advice to the Dean, the Vice-Deans, and the Executive Director, Advancement, working on the annual budget process, the 5-year business cycle planning, staffing decisions and frameworks. S/he manages, tracks and reports on sub-budget of the Executive Director, Advancement. Working closely with the Dean, the Senior Management Group, and the faculty, the Director, Alumni provides leadership and professional advice, attending Rotman Senior Management Group meetings as needed. S/he will liaise with the Division of University Advancement and University Relations in the fostering of strong, collaborative relations. The Director, Donor Relations is a strong leader and manager who can develop, motivate and manage a highly successful donor & stakeholder relations and events delivery team
EDUCATION:
University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 8 to 10 years' experience in an advancement role, preferably in a university environment in a senior portfolio. Experience developing and executing multi-faceted donor and stakeholder relations programs is required.
SKILLS: Ability to develop, motivate and manage a highly successful donor and stakeholder team. The position requires a high level of professionalism, independence, diplomacy, and sound business judgment. The ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risk is essential, in all operational contexts as well as in the development and dissemination of sensitive information, communications, relations with key stakeholders. The incumbent must possess a clear understanding of business and university administration, and demonstrate resourcefulness, tact, discretion, and sensitivity to confidential matters. The ability to work collaboratively and effectively under pressure, to manage complex, evolving agendas and to adjust priorities in a dynamic environment is essential, as is a proven track record of working effectively and collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders at different levels of the School, University and externally. Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as exceptional oral and written communications skills. Experience in a similar role and development/fundraising is required. The position also requires strong analytical, organizational, strategic decision-making and problem-solving skills.
OTHER: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email and internet software; Keyboarding skills; familiarity with donor management systems; knowledge of Blackboard an asset.
