Job description
Responsibilities:
In particular, the incumbent will:
Develop and implement strategies to secure major gifts for the university.
Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors.
Identify new donors and re-activate lapsed donors as well as identifying new income sources for the university.
Solicit more funding from existing donors.
Solicit multiple-year funding from current and new donors.
Engage and solicit funding from national and international donors.
Mobilise funding for priority projects with set targets (targets vary between R20 million and R100 million).
Assist in developing, implementing, and managing fundraising campaigns, social media, and website content.
Excellence in research, writing, and image sourcing skills to ensure high-level contribution in producing newsletters, media content, and integrated reports where appropriate.
Support fundraising initiatives within faculties.
Excellent communication and creative writing skills to ensure innovative and creative presentations are produced and captivating proposals are written.
Comply with ad hoc requests from the Director to assist with special projects.
Ensure deadlines are met.
Remain abreast of fundraising best practices and laws, ensuring compliance with UJ and other pertinent government standards (e.g., POPIA) to exhibit good governance to the donor community.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications:
Essential: Bachelor's Degree - Public Relations or Communications / Bachelor's Degree - Marketing and Sales/Business Management.
Desirable: Certificate in Fundraising.
Experience:
5 years' fundraising experience with a proven track record is essential (fundraising targets must be met).
5 years' working experience in a public relations / marketing / communication environment is essential.
3 years' working experience in a tertiary education environment/ third sector is desirable.
The successful candidate has to be deadline and target driven, with the will and persistence to succeed.
Experience in project management is essential.
Verbal and strong written communication skills are essential.
The successful candidate should be highly organized and a team player.
Driver's licence and own car is essential as extensive national travel is required.
