UN Women South Africa Multi-Country Office (SAMCO) is based in Pretoria, South Africa and serves five countries (South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, and The Kingdom of Eswatini). UN Women South Africa Multi-Country Office is implementing The Accelerate Women's Owned Micro Enterprise (AWOME) Phase 3 programme, funded by De Beers PLC, designed to target 1500 women entrepreneurs in the informal sector who have been adversely affected by the economic effects of the COVID 19 pandemic as well as the rising unemployment and inequality in the region. The 3-year programme (2024-2026) is being implemented in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. One of the key outputs of the programme is to collect data of the 1500 women micro entrepreneurs across the 3 countries and upload it in a Management Information System (MIS) to ensure ease of reporting and access of updates by stakeholders. It is proposed that existing data collected on WOE is urgently analysed to inform how support being received is impacting their livelihoods.
Objectives of the assignment: The main objective of the assignment is to conduct a detailed comprehensive analysis of the existing database of women owned businesses and enterprises already captured on the platform and consolidate with the new cohort for 2024-2026.
The analysis of the existing data will include type of enterprise sectors; size; turnover; type of enterprise-related training required, location of business, WOE living with disabilities and other key information to guide project interventions for the women enterprises in the three countries targeted by the project.
Scope of Work: The Data Assistant, working in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Team and hosting company, will be responsible for the management of data for women owned enterprises and input into the online BuyFromWomen Platform to support programme delivery. The following key tasks will be undertaken:
Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities: Analyse current MIS platform and identify data gaps on existing database and develop action points for improvement from all stakeholders of the 3 countries.Perform analysis on existing data to develop a Typology of Women Owned Enterprises.Conduct a rapid capacity assessment of women owned enterprises in the UN Women database to identify immediate, medium- and long-term capacity support needs.Document and present information collected biannually to the WEE team.Attend training programmes earmarked for women to facilitate data capturing and quarterly reporting for donors.Core Values: Respect for DiversityIntegrityProfessionalismCore Competencies: Awareness and Sensitivity Regarding Gender IssuesThe ability to analyze, model and interpret data accurately.Problem-solving and analytical skills.Ability to exercise a methodical and logical approach.The ability to plan work and meet specified deadlines.Accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to identify and analyze trends, opportunities, and threats.Required Skills and ExperienceEducation: Bachelor's degree in information systems; Computer Sciences or Statistics, Geographic Information Systems or any other related field.Knowledge of programming languages, such as SQL, VBA, Oracle, and Python.Knowledge of analytics software such as Excel, PowerBI, etc.Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in data analysis.Knowledge about gender equality and the empowerment of women will be an added advantage.Strong analytical and research skills.Familiarity with gender-related issues and experience in conducting gender-sensitive data analysis.Excellent communication and reporting skills.Please note that the system will only allow one attachment, and candidates are required to include in the P-11 form links for their previously published reports and articles completed within the last two years.
