Cost Accountant: Ottery, Cape Town

Our client based in Ottery, Cape Town is looking to employ a Cost Accountant.This role will report to the continuous improvements department. The Cost Accountant will support operations by providing information to aid decision-making and drive profitability, operational efficiency, and effective cost control. The Cost Accountant will identify and drive system improvement opportunities and ensure strong controls are in place.Requirements:CIMAAt least 1-3 years of experience in a financial or cost accounting roleExperience working within a manufacturing environmentStrong analytical and problem-solving abilityGood attention to detail and organisational skillsGood written, verbal communication and collaborative skillsAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesAbility to work in a fast-paced environment subject to constant changeTeam Player and the ability to drive projects and implementations within a teamProficiency in accounting software (Syspro)Experience in implementing a costing "system"Responsibilities:Implement a costing system with value-adding reports and recommendationsReview and closure of jobs, investigating variances and driving corrective actionsReview and update of BOM's as requiredReview and monitor labour and overhead allocations to productsReview and monitor labour and overhead rates used for recoveryReview and update standard cost for raw materials in the accounting system to ensure inventory valuation is accurate including landed cost calculations for imported raw materialsAnalyse material usage and waste and drive corrective actionsReview inventory count results for approvalReview the accuracy of inventory-related transactions and assist with queriesEnsure strong inventory controls are in place to safeguard inventory and drive accuracyPerform product and customer costingsCompile costing information and perform ad-hoc costings as requiredAnalyse margin and costs and identify where improvements can be made to profitabilityBuilding and maintaining reports to assist product mix decision-makingPerforming financial modelling to inform decision-making for strategic objectivesPreparing information and reports for business presentationsAssist with compiling annual budgets and rolling forecastsProviding systems support to users and maintaining master dataIdentify and drive system improvements and assist with special projectsPrepare SOP documentation and provide training to staff on systems implemented
