CHIEF LANGUAGE PRACTITIONER: SESOTHO 2024Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) is a statutory body established in terms of Act 59 of 1995 (as amended) for, inter alia, the creation of conditions for the development and for the promotion of equal use and enjoyment of all the official South African languages. PanSALB seeks to appoint results-driven, assertive and dedicated individuals to fill the following position at our Organisation:CHIEF LANGUAGE PRACTITIONER: SESOTHOReference: 01/2024Salary: R527,298 per annum (Other benefits include Housing and Medical-Aid allowances, 13th Cheque and Provident fund)Purpose of the Position: The Chief Language Practitioner is responsible for the implementation of language development and usage in the province. The incumbent must ensure equitability of language use, language promotion and implement language research programmes as well as to co-ordinate linguistic human rights cases. The incumbent must also support PanSALB's Provincial Language Committee, National Language Board and National Lexicography Units. Compliance with policies and procedures is essential. The incumbent must focus on improving and supporting their work in order to respond to PanSALB's business requirements through troubleshooting and diagnosis of problems and taking corrective measures. The incumbent shall also execute other duties as and when required.Minimum Requirements: Applicants must be in possession of a National Diploma or B-degree in Languages (or equivalent qualification) with translation, interpreting, status language planning, lexicography, terminology, together with 3 to 5 years' experience as a Language Practitioner. A post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage. 3-5 years' working experience on language matters including linguistic human rights. Sound knowledge of language legislation, monitoring and evaluation systems. Research knowledge and skills, policy development and PanSALB Act. A good command of at least three (3) official languages of the relevant province. A valid driver's licence and preparedness to work under pressure and travel extensively. Willingness to accept responsibility and other functions that may be delegated.Competencies Needed: Stakeholder management, change management, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation and presentation skills, project management, computer literacy (MS Office), translation and interpreting skills, basic research skills, problem analysis and solution, decision making, planning and organising.Key Performance Areas: The successful incumbent will be expected to perform amongst others but not limited to the following tasks and responsibilities: Coordination of structures meetings for creating conditions for language use and development. Develop and update databases and records of approved products and services by PanSALB. Arrange and co-ordinate language promotion awareness workshops. Create awareness on the importance of translation and interpreting services. Assist in developing guidelines, policies and frameworks. Carry out language research programmes. Carry out linguistic human rights programmes. Development and implementation of linguistic human rights monitoring tools. Language promotion and media coverage/reports. Conduct radio interviews on language matters. Hosting events on the promotion of multilingualism/mother-tongue use. Establish and maintain partnerships with stakeholders. Develop a stakeholder database. Ensure proper functioning of established reading clubs.
