Buyers in the shopfitting and construction industry procure all the materials, tools and subcontractors required for building projects and ensure they are provided on time and within allocated budgets. They play a vital role in ensuring the profitability of business contracts by negotiating, procuring and purchasing the most cost-effective and appropriate materials and tools for each job. They also play an essential role in negotiating and procuring a variety of subcontractors as and when needed by the projects department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Research, select and purchase quality products and materials.
2. Ensure manufacturing and site build materials are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets.
3. Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing.
4. Conduct annual price negotiations with all suppliers and subcontractors to maximise the profitability of manufacturing and construction projects.
5. Manage supplier and subcontractor lead times in accordance with project requirements.
6. Identify and negotiate with new suppliers on new and existing product ranges.
7. Provide material and labour pricing and insights to the technical department to ensure accurate job costing.
8. Research and provide accurate material and subcontractor pricing based on project drawings and plans.
9. Coordinate with several construction site managers to ensure the required materials, tools, and equipment is on-site as per team requirements.
10. Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
11. Liaise with suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotations and agree on delivery times.
12. Maintain detailed records of all organisation procurement and buying activities and report to senior management.
13. Assess the reliability of sub-contractors and suppliers according to company procurement policy.
14. Process requisitions and update management on the status of orders.
15. Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.
16. Reporting on daily, weekly and monthly buying trends to senior management.
17. Assess the quality of stock received and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of procurement and buying techniques and tools.Work experience as a buyer.The ability to work well in a team.The ability to work in a high-pressure environment.Excellent communication skills.Excellent negotiation and deal-making skills.Proficiency in Excel.Proficiency in ERP software such as SAP or Palladium.The ability to read and analyse manufacturing and construction drawings will be beneficial.Prior experience in the shopfitting and light construction industry will be beneficial.EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE: · High school certificate
· + 3 Years experience in a buying or procurement related position.
· A valid driver's license
· Industry-related qualification will be beneficial
