Summary: This is a highly visible position that will define and execute the Payment strategy for Boku in South Africa.You will be the key commercial interface and responsible for identifying, engaging, developing, onboarding, and managing new and existing partners, including Mobile Network Operators, eWallet & Bank Transfers, payment service providers (PSPs), and merchants.You will also be the local account manager, supporting global account management to engage and expand our business with key strategic merchants where required.Location: South Africa
Coverage: South Africa (may be required to cover other countries in Africa)
Duties & Responsibilities: Business Development & Partners Management: Understand the payments business in South Africa specifically and Africa in general to identify, qualify, develop, manage, and execute the supply pipeline for Payment (i.e. ewallets, Account to Account payment, Mobile carriers).Support smooth and efficient partner onboarding and service launch, ensuring full compliance with Boku's business ethics, audit, and regulatory guidelines.Negotiate with partners to optimize conversion, improve pricing and marketing support, and manage operational contract addenda, invoice, and settlement issues.Establish and manage strong relationships with key decision-makers in carriers/eWallet/PSPs/merchants.Become the key 'problem solver' for partners in any matters related to Mobile Payments.Have full knowledge of the regulatory landscape around licensing, banking, and settlement to enable the selected candidate to lead discussions with central banks, payment authorities, and banks.Interact and Communication: Work closely with EMEA management to develop the Payment strategy; ensure alignment on commercial strategies and business objectives.Work closely with internal stakeholders (i.e. Product, Project, Legal, Finance, Sales, Account Management, tax, regulatory, and banking teams) to finalize commercial agreements, close contracts, and complete technical integration with Mobile Payment partners (i.e. carriers/eWallet/PSPs/merchants).Act as the 'partners' champion' within the organization, and Boku's ambassador to partners.Qualification: A university degree/diploma in any discipline; preferably in Business Administration, Sales & Marketing.At least 7 years of experience working in a combination of business development, project management, marketing, or product development, with at least 5 years in payment, remittance, or aggregation business.Strong written and oral communication skills in both English (other languages will be a plus).Experience: Experienced self-starter with a customer-centric focus, an analytical mindset, and attention to detail.Strong advantage if the candidate has experience working in Payment, Telco, eCommerce, FinTech; preferably in Mobile Payment, Alternative Payment, or Local Payment Methods.
