Overview
The position requires suitably qualified persons to operate automated manufacturing units at BME's Losberg facility. The successful candidate is expected to operate machines that are designed to perform tasks with minimal human intervention. Such machines perform various preparation and assembly processes, including various quality control and performance measuring activities.
Assembly operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operating of the automated assembly lines, ensuring that the product that is released to customers conforms to minimum quality specification, whilst meeting safety, quality and operational targets.
Qualifications
Grade 12 certificate
The candidate must have initiated and progressed with further post grade 12 qualification
A technical post-matric qualification would be beneficial
Experience
Experience in operating an automated assembly line would be beneficial
Proven strong mechanical aptitude
Duties
Start and stop operate machines within area according to work instruction procedures
Intervene or stop process immediately in the event of a process upset or malfunction causing a deviation in product quality or process safety
Operate system in such a way that minimum yield targets are achieved
Perform basic troubleshooting on the assembly line when operational difficulties arise to be able to effectively identify issues to inform automation technicians of adjustments or repairs that need to be made
Perform routine cleaning operations on the automated assembly line and ensure good housekeeping is maintained at all times
Ensure availability and uninterrupted supply of raw materials and components as and when required
Understand the safety requirements of working with hazardous materials and materials that may be susceptible to electrostatic discharge
Ensure production meets scheduled production plans consistently
Ensure product and assembly preservation by enforcing correct handling procedures
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations as well as the Explosives Act and Regulations
Provide information as required by position, which includes, but are not limited to compiling production and quality reports
Interact with computerized system to effectively control processes via the HMI
Assist and direct the work and activities of assembly assistants as and when required
Perform raw material acceptance checks to ensure conformance to quality acceptance criteria
Identify causes of process upsets and identify raw material exceptions
Assist automation technician with repairs and adjustments as guided and instructed
Job Competencies
Proven strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to work with human machine interfaces/basic computer skills to effectively control an automated assembly line
Active team player that can perform their duties in a mostly non-seated position for the majority of the shift
Alert and quick to respond to assembly machine alarm conditions or process upset conditions
Proven ability to meet safety, quality and operational requirements
Self-motivated with proven English written and verbal communication
Physically fit, dependable and energetic with sober habits
Ability to perform duties in a standing position for the majority of shift
No criminal record
