Your opportunity:
This position provides an opportunity to join the Office of the Registrar and Student Services (ORSS) at the Daniels Faculty. Reporting to the Registrar & Director, Student Services, the Assistant Registrar, Research-based Programs is responsible for advising on admissions criteria, financial aid and academic matters for research based programs. The incumbent is expected to be innovative and pro-active in supporting the strategic direction of the Faculty through the provision of seamless and responsive services.
The incumbent is responsible for advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines for research based programs. The incumbent also advises students on financial aid and academic matters. The incumbent is responsible for tracking and monitoring the distribution of awards and the exam process.
Your responsibilities will include: Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequencesAdvising students on financial aid matters, bursaries, budgeting and personal financial management by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomesAdvising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's backgroundConceptualizing, organizing and executing event activitiesProviding detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlinesAnalyzing and making recommendations on award funding allocationDisseminating information regarding the disbursement of awardsCreating and updating student recordsEssential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.Minimum four years of recent experience in a Registrarial environment advising on admissions, financial aid matters and academic matters preferably in an post secondary academic environmentExperience advising graduate and/or undergraduate studentsExperience with conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activitiesExperience with interpreting and applying academic policies and regulations.Experience administering student exams, awards and bursary processes.Relevant experience with design and field based programs.Experience with developing and delivering presentations and workshops.Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite with advanced knowledge of Excel.Demonstrated proficiency in using Student Information Systems (eg: ACORN/ROSI) and/or Course Management System (eg: Quercus, CIS).Familiarity with admission databases (e.g., Online Admissions Application, Nolij, Slate, JOIN) and Enrolment Services File Share.Excellent analytical skills with the ability to understand and apply a large amount of information and set of regulations and guidelines with minimal supervision.Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service and advising students.Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy and sound judgment.Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks within a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Ability to deal knowledgably, courteously, patiently, and professionally with a wide range of individuals/ students from diverse background.Focused and goal oriented; ability to be flexible in working independently as well as collaboratively.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and discretion; familiarity with FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).Ability to work some evenings and weekends during the peak periods.
