Area Manager - Cleaning Division

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing all subordinate staff on the integrated services in accordance with sector strategy, contract specifications, and statutory regulations. This will include providing operational support, overseeing client services, training, audits, and industrial relations-related issues in the designated areas, as well as managing operational costs.Education and Experience Required:Grade 12Minimum 5 years' experience in cleaning and health care is compulsoryA valid driver's licenseExperience in highly commercial and sensitive markets is compulsoryProject management experience in cleaning would be an advantageKnowledge and Skills:Knowledge of the relevant cleaning, hygiene, and pest sectorKnowledge of South African and industry-specific lawsKnowledge of MS Office; specifically Excel and WordProactive and professionalAbility to balance the budget and save on soft costsAbility to draft and extract reportsProblem solving & decision makingCustomer relationship buildingCommunication and team leadershipFinancial & business acumenAssertiveness and negotiationAnalytical thinking and resilienceKey Areas of Responsibility:Employee Management:Manage all subordinates in accordance with sector strategy, contract specifications, and statutory regulationsEnsure adherence to working standards as per service level agreements and business standardsUphold company image and reputation, ensuring employees adhere to uniform regulationsArrange counseling and wellness campaigns within each siteMonitor and verify employee time schedules as per shift agreementsManage employee leaveRegularly communicate changes and general information to all employees per siteIndustrial Relations Support:Maintain discipline using the company's disciplinary code and procedures, addressing grievancesPrepare contingency plans for strikes and stay-awaysAppraise staff through verbal direction and performance appraisals for supervisory levels and aboveEnsure adherence to company policy and procedureManage union relationshipsRecruitment:Efficiently source temporary employees in accordance with labor legislation and internal processesEnsure employee head count aligns with agreed head count costingFollow approval processes when hiring new staffEnsure staff members sign their engagement contracts before starting work on siteSubmit all onboarding forms to payroll on timeSystems and Processes:Ensure PRP hours are approved on timeAdhere to timely salary paymentsSite Management:Ensure correct resources and employees are transported to siteConduct regular inspectionsEnsure prompt attention to communications book proceduresAttend regular meetings with clients, taking minutesAddress all problems promptlyUtilize the AM tool for each siteConduct audits and inspectionsMaintain overall client expenses on siteWork with contract managers to upsell clientsBuild and maintain client relationshipsHave in-depth knowledge of business products and value propositionsConduct annual training for staffProvide on-the-job training and statutory training for staffImplement learnerships and talent incubation initiativesHealth & Safety:Complete hazard identification and risk assessmentsEnsure equipment is in good working orderMaintain sufficient and good condition uniformsSupply personal protective equipment as per site and scope hazards identifiedConduct toolbox talks twice a week by the contract managerEnsure current safety data sheets are available for chemicals used on siteProvide staff medicals where necessaryFollow waste management procedures
