Reporting to the Area Head of Logistics & Services Product, the Area Air Freight Manager will play a critical role to help advance and execute the overall Maersk Air strategy to achieve sustainable profitable growth within Southern Africa and Islands Area (SAI). This role will be responsible for all air freight related matters in the SAI Area, including adherence to operational procedures and policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with Regional and Global Air leadership teams and drive the development and/or deployment of new processes and solutions within SAI Area.
Build relationships with all airlines operating in the region, leveraging and supporting all SAI countries for best purchase of capacity.
Sales support and guidance: Support sales organisation by visiting customers and building confidence in air freight product.
Act as a Product expert in front of customers, guide/support Sales to sell the right type of business to the right destinations.
Procurement: Responsible for Air strategy implementation throughout SAI.
Responsible for identifying procurement leverage across the Area. Management with preferred partners on an area level.
Pricing and tenders: Define region pricing approach in line with global and regional strategy, accountable for the area RFQ pricing, and for aligning the local pricing with the area pricing desk.
Solution design: Support Air Product development of customer specific solutions pertaining to the area network.
Operational Excellence: Identify areas with needs for area Ops Excellence team intervention.
Operations: Accountable for SAI Area operations and therefore the increase in consolidation and de-consolidation, optimization of net achieved costs as well as operations quality.
Manage operations resources as per productivity and forecast targets.
Manage and improve the performance of the Service/Product in the Area.
Product profitability: Focus on maximizing revenue, EBIT and GP through upselling and cost management.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
A relevant tertiary qualification (university degree highly preferred)
Minimum 10 years' experience in the Air Freight industry with management / leadership responsibility
An experienced individual capable of heading up Air Freight
Strong focus on business outcomes – results-driven
Strong process-oriented approach to work and excellent attention to detail
Comprehensive insight on global supply chain development
