DutiesProvides program management and technical guidance regarding heritage resource management laws, regulations, and policies for major cultural heritage projects with complex conflicts.Evaluates cultural heritage resources for their eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).Performs research and study on ethnography, history, and archaeology.Implements and ensures compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act Section (NHPA) 106 process.Participates in the planning and preparing of multiple-use resource management plans, environmental assessments and impact documents, and long-range protection management plans.Evaluates program effectiveness and resolves problems involving a wide variety of circumstances and unusual conditions.Assists specialists from other resource programs in their pre-implementation activity and project planning to anticipate and avoid heritage resource conflicts.Performs a variety of administrative tasks related to the program (i.e. permit review, site monitoring, project coordination).Participates as a team member in preparing multiple-use resource management plans and environmental impact documents, identifying special cultural heritage resource considerations and conflicts.RequirementsU.S. Citizenship is required.Be sure to read the How to Apply and Required Documents Sections.You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.Direct Deposit Required.Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination.Your resume must contain enough information to show that you meet the qualification requirements as defined in the announcement. To be considered you must meet one of the below requirements:A degree that includes at least 3 semester hours in each of the following courses: History of archeology; Archeology of a major geographical area; Regional archeology, cultures, or sites; Theory and methods of archeology such as typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques. You must also have at least 6 semester hours in geography, geology, history, historical archeology, environmental studies, scientific writing, or surveying AND Archeological field school.A degree in Anthropology with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics; history; or related American studies. The curriculum must have included course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above.Combination of qualifying education and experience that includes college level education that has provided knowledge equivalent to the course work described above, AND appropriate technical experience.Four years of Archeological experience that demonstrated through knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology work. This experience includes archeology field experience that includes a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Work must have provided the ability to serve as a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as part of a larger archeological project.In addition to the above IOR, in order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience qualification requirements as outlined below. No assumptions will be made about your experience.You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Conducting prehistoric and historical archaeological research. Utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical information systems (GIS) based software systems to map exact archaeological boundaries and record archaeological site information characteristics. Conducting cultural resource investigations in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) to include reviewing and writing technical reports. Consulting and collaborating with federal agencies, state agencies, and federally recognized Native American Tribes on archeological projects. Preparing and reviewing reports that document presence of cultural resources, that determine the effects of proposed actions related to construction, environmental restoration, or mitigation projects.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.Physical Demands: Office work is sedentary in nature. Travel may be required to review/complete field work. Field visits may require physical exertion, standing or walking over uneven terrain, bending, crouching, use of hand tools, and lifting.Work Environment: Office work is completed in a well-ventilated and heated office setting.
