Your opportunity:
As the Apprentice Machinist, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of highly skilled machinists and researchers, contributing to the cutting-edge research and teaching priorities within the Department of Chemistry. Reporting to the Manager of Mechatronic Services, the Apprentice Machinist designs, fabricates, installs, maintains and repairs unique scientific devices, components and precision instruments for research purposes and undergraduate teaching.
Your responsibilities will include: Designing, modifying and fabricating custom machine partsApplying established standards when operating fabrication equipmentVerifying the accuracy of design requirementsHandling minor equipment repairsPreparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies according to the needs of the facilityChecking to ensure equipment is in working orderVerifying inventoryProviding safety training and ensuring adherence to safety procedures and standardsEssential Qualifications: College Diploma (2 years) in Aerospace Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, General Machinist, Tool and Die Maker or Mould Maker or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education.Minimum three years of recent and relevant experience in any combination of machining, tool and die making, or mould making.Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with manual and powered/energized resources.Demonstrated general machinist skills in one of the following areas: Milling or Turning.Ability to work from mechanical drawings, client specifications, and oral or written instructions.Ability to exercise judgment in determining the techniques and methods used.Basic G-Code programming knowledge and skills, or willingness to learn.Must have basic machinist tools and bench style tool box.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial work environment.Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).Demonstrated interest in broadening knowledge in techniques/tools and materials and a motivated learner.Assets (Nonessential): Welding experience.To be successful in this role you will be: AccountableOrganizedPossess a positive attitudeTeam playerClosing Date: 12/12/2024, 11:59PM ET

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 07 -- $59,172 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $75,673.
