This may involve irregular working hours, including overtime.Legal and physical ability to possess and discharge firearms appropriately and safely is required.Incumbents must comply with both Federal and State statutory requirements to possess and use firearms in the performance of their duties.Testing Designated Position: Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use.QualificationsApplicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the positions.Medical RequirementsAt the time of initial appointment, candidates for all pilot positions must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations. Staff specialists not involved in the operation of aircraft need only have a medical examination indicating that they are able to perform the duties of the position to be filled.Certificates And RatingsFor all grade levels and specializations, candidates must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating. For flight instructor positions, the FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required.Minimum Flight Hour RequirementsTotal Flight Time -- 1500 HRSPilot-In-Command -- 250 HRSNight Flying -- 75 HRSFlying Time, Last 12 Months -- 100 HRSInstructor Time -- 500 HRSFOR THE GS-13 LEVEL:Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:Experience evaluating aviation training needs of an agency's field programs.Experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to instruct in technical aspects of flight operations.Experience evaluating training requirements, creating course material for instructing employees in aviation safety and management.Experience that demonstrates the ability to operate light (less than 12,500 lbs), single engine, tail wheel, piston powered aircraft.1200 hours PIC flight time in Single Engine Land airplane; and100 hours PIC flight time in the preceding 12 months; and100 hours PIC flight time in the make and model of aircraft or similar type; and250 hours flight experience as PIC for wildlife damage management operations; or 500 hours flight experience in WS type flying.Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).EducationThis position does not have an education qualification requirement.Additional informationCareer Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP), Reemployment Priority List (RPL), or Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): Visit the OPM website for information on how to apply as a CTAP, RPL, or ICTAP eligible.First time hires to the federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected.Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid.Locality pay will vary based upon the selectee's duty location.Worksite Information: This position may be eligible to telework up to four days per week.
