A vacancy exists for an Admission Clerk based at Life Empangeni Private Hospital reporting to the Admission Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial and clinical risks of the patient event by ensuring accurate coding, collection of clinical information and accounts submissions of patient hospitalisation to achieve key strategic objectives.
Critical OutputsCarrying out admissions, discharges and receptionist duties in accordance with hospital protocolsLiaising with medical aids to obtain authorisation for pre-admission or admissionPerforming general administration duties involved in the admission of patients including coding, billing, finalising and submission of casualty filesReceiving, receipting and handling of cash and completing drop safe register and dropping of cash in designated safesDaily management of the No-Auth screens to facilitate patient authorisationAdhering to all Pre-admission, admissions and related protocolsWorking 12 hour shifts including weekends, public holidays and night duty as applicableAnswering the hospital switchboard when requiredCollection of co-payments, deductibles, private fees when applicable as well as related documentationWorking out estimates on system for private patients according to group protocolsPerforming general administration duties involved in the pre-admission and admission of patientsFollow up of unregistered babies with schemes to obtain authorisation for admissionDaily clearing of the rejection screens to manage and reduce financial riskDaily bankingUnderstanding and following the processes of admitting COID (Injury on duty) patientsOther related tasks as delegated by Line ManagerRequirementsGrade 12Experience within a healthcare environment including people management and customer service experienceComprehensive knowledge of admissions proceduresUnderstanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantageBasic understanding of financial principlesComputer proficiency (comprehensive knowledge of Impilo, IMEDS or relevant software system)Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a prerequisite.Strong customer service ethics and the ability to work under pressure with multitaskingKnowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology will be advantageousAvailable to work shift hours and on short noticeThe position requires an enthusiastic, motivated and well-organized individualCompetenciesProblem-solving, analysis and judgementResilienceEngaging diversityVerbal & written communication and presentationInfluencingDrive & energyExcellence orientationEthical behaviourBuilding relationshipsCustomer responsivenessOrganisational awarenessEmail: ******
