The city's multicultural networks and international connections make the Daniels Faculty a powerful place to start a career.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Registrar & Director, Student Services, the Academic Advisor provides one-on-one advising services to Daniels students from all years of study and assists them in making decisions affecting their academic progress in the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design from admission to graduation. The Academic Advisor advises students on admissions, program and course selection, fees and finances, student records, petitions and requests for special consideration, and general UofT, Daniels, SGS and Arts & Science policies and procedures. The Academic Advisor assists students with a wide range of academic issues, including interpretation of University policies and procedures, choosing courses and programs, meeting degree requirements, managing personal or health issues which impact their academic progress, and planning pathways for their future. The incumbent provides referrals to students who require specialized services to other supports on campus.Advising students on the development of their educational plans including answering inquiries on programs, admissions, course selection, registration, and correspond with faculty and other University departments regarding curriculum requirements.Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences; Refer students to appropriate resources, information, and services across the University and mediate extensions, accommodations, and exam deferrals on behalf of the student where there are extenuating circumstances.Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary; Receive, assess, collate and process all documents related to petitions and appeals.Developing and facilitating educational workshops and seminars, leading Q&A sessions and on occasion provide general advice to students in a group setting.Maintain accurate student records and ensure academic advising sessions are properly documented for legal purposes.Provide input and work collaboratively with staff from the Office of the Registrar and other departments or divisions for ongoing system and database improvements, implementation, and development.Essential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum four (4) years of recent and related student academic and financial advising at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in a university setting, preferably in a Registrar's Office.Experience advising students on the development of their educational plans including answering inquiries on curriculum, prerequisites, course selection, elective options, registration, and progression pathways for different majors.Experience advising students on academic calendars, registration processes, grading systems, transfer credit policies, and graduation requirements.Experience applying, interpreting and advising on academic guidelines and procedures at the undergraduate and graduate level.Solid knowledge on academic policies and procedures including: general admission process, program/degree requirements, application process, petitions, and role of registrarial office.Experience advising students on petitions and academic appeals processes.Experience and sound knowledge of best practices in advising and student services.Experience working with and advising international students, at-risk students, and students from diverse backgrounds.Experience with developing and leading presentations.Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Advanced skills with ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer, Slate, eMarks or other similar enterprise database solutions/CRM systems.Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task and organize work, and meet tight deadlines while able to pay attention to detail.Demonstrated skills and ability to provide effective guidance and advice to students in a responsive, empathetic, thoughtful, and discreet manner.Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences and issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion.Demonstrated commitment to working as a team player with a commitment to exceptional student service.Assets (Nonessential):Familiarity with curriculum offerings, policies, procedures, and organizational structures in the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design.To be successful in this role you will be:ApproachableDiplomaticPerceptivePossess a positive attitudeResourcefulClosing Date: 09/04/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 12 -- $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147.
