Shelly Beach Hospital (Pty) Ltd has one post of a Unit Manager in the Medical Ward.Role SummaryThe successful candidate will be overall responsible and accountable for coordinating, implementing and managing quality nursing care in the units.Key Work Output and Accountabilities:Provision of effective, safe, and efficient patient and family centered nursing care in the units, making Shelly Beach Hospital a hospital of choice in the area.Accountable for identification of unit's clinical and safety risks (SHE) and trends.Checking and ensuring the availability, completeness and working condition of the resuscitation trolleys and equipment.Management of ward stock and consumables.Checking and ensuring the availability of scheduled drugs, ensuring compliance to the SOP in relation to Scheduled drugs.The Unit Manager is responsible for identifying areas to improve operational efficiencies in nursing care, to ensure sustainability for the hospital and internal audit compliance.Ensuring compliance with National Core Standards of quality, Infection Prevention and Control, and Occupational Health and Safety prescripts.Active participation in the Customer Relationship Management Process.Responsible for identification of quality improvement opportunities in the Unit; and ensure appropriate quality improvement initiatives are developed, implemented and effects measured.Ensures appropriate utilization of resources, including equipment, human and supplies, to limit costs and maximize results.Manage Unit nursing financials, including overtime cost and daily staffing approvals and models – working within approved acuities.Inherent Requirements:A relevant nursing qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.5 years relevant experience after registration as a Registered Nurse with SANC.Proof of current registration with SANC.Recommendation:Experience as a Unit Manager or shift leader will serve as an advantage.Competencies, Skills, Knowledge and Attributes:Computer literacy.Sound Knowledge of budget control including cost effective management of stock and consumables.The capacity to implement and support change initiatives and to provide leadership in times of uncertainty.The ability to evaluate and develop different levels of capacity within a team to achieve set objectives.Capable of recognising the need for action, considering possible risks and taking responsibility for results.Capable of making decisions timeously, especially clinical decisions, and taking responsibility for the consequences.Capacity to plan, organise and control their own work environment by setting appropriate priorities and achieving set objectives within a given time frame.Capacity to establish constructive and effective relationships; and reduce conflicts.The capacity to perform technical functions to required standards.The capacity to clearly present information, either written or verbal.Capacity to plan, organize and respond to the needs of internal and external customers.Be resilient and able to facilitate change management.Shelly Beach Hospital is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, whose aim is to promote representivity in all occupational categories in the institution.Shelly Beach Hospital reserves the right not to fill the post.
