Durban North - Take the Lead in our HVAC Manufacturing Team Are you a seasoned workshop manager with a strong background in industrial manufacturing? Do you have the skills to lead a team of skilled tradespeople and keep production running. Our client, a leading HVAC contractor (known for delivering top-notch services), ensures that HVAC systems perform at their best all year round. From routine maintenance to major system overhauls, weve got the expertise to handle any HVAC project with precision and efficiency. Role: As our Production/Workshop Manager, youll be at the heart of our manufacturing operations, overseeing the day-to-day activities in our workshop. Your ability to plan, manage, and optimize production processes will be critical to our success. 3. Key Responsibilities: 3.1. Workshop & Team Management: 3.1.1. Lead and manage the workshop and technical staff, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. 3.1.2. Supervise, train, and develop workshop staff, promoting multi-skilling and ensuring a high standard of work. 3.1.3. Ensure all equipment and machinery are properly operated and maintained, organizing repairs and routine maintenance as needed. 3.2. Production Planning & Scheduling: 3.2.1. Plan and organise production schedules, ensuring adherence to deadlines and quality standards. 3.2.2. Daily work planning, scheduling, and instruction to workshop teams and team leaders. 3.2.3. Re-negotiate timescales or schedules as necessary to meet project deadlines. 3.2.4. Interact with the Sales team and Operations Manager on new projects, scheduling, and completion dates. 3.3. Quality & Safety Management: 3.3.1. Manage and ensure quality throughout the production process, from start to finish. 3.3.2. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols, treating health and safety as a priority. 3.3.3. Focus on reducing customer complaints through the management of an effective returns procedure. 3.3.4. Daily execution of 5S processes to maintain a clean and efficient workspace. 3.4. Coordination & Communication: 3.4.1. Liaise with Operations Manager, Sales team, and Customers on project progress and any potential issues. 3.4.2. Plan and order special items from external suppliers to ensure timely delivery. 3.4.3. Maintain clear and open communication with all stakeholders, including buyers, marketing, and sales staff. 3.5. Administrative & Resource Management: 3.5.1. Perform necessary administrative tasks to support workshop operations. 3.5.2. Estimate, negotiate, and agree on budgets and timescales with clients and managers. 3.5.3. Select, order, and purchase materials, ensuring cost-effective production. 3.5.4. Oversee tooling management and control. Experience & Qualifications: 4.1.1. Mechanical Engineering diploma with at least 5 years of workshop management experience. 4.1.2. Trade tested toolmaker/boilermaker/fitter & turner or millwright with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience. 4.1.3. Proven experience in managing a workshop within the industrial manufacturing sector, particularly in HVAC-related environments. 4.2. Skills & Competencies: 4.2.1. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team. 4.2.2. Proficiency in production planning, resource management, and quality control. 4.2.3. Solid understanding of safety regulations and procedures applicable to workshop operations. 4.2.4. Ability to read technical drawings and specifications, with the aptitude to plan and manufacture accordingly. 4.2.5. Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to work under pressure. 4.3. Other Requirements: 4.3.1. Computer literacy (basic proficiency in Word & Excel). 4.3.2. Valid drivers license (Code EC would be advantageous) and own vehicle. 4.3.3. Willingness to work long hours when required. 4.3.4. Entrepreneurial mindset with a go-getter attitude.
