About this role in the team: As the VP of Financial Crime Compliance (FCC), you'll be reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer & Global MLRO (linkedin.com/in/martarequeijo). You'll be responsible for:
designing and overseeing BVNK's global financial crime compliance operating model, ensuring adequate and effective systems and controls are in place, in compliance with local legislative and regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions the Group operates.Developing the financial crime compliance framework and related policies and processes, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are tailored to the business, while also enhancing operational efficiencies.Advising the business and senior management on the financial crime compliance risk exposure from new products, services and features.We are looking for a team player; someone who is adaptable and enjoys solving complex problems in a constantly changing environment. You must be able to think strategically, prioritise appropriately, manage numerous concurring priorities, and work well under stress. You will be comfortable managing senior stakeholders and drafting papers for senior audiences, namely senior management and regulators. You would have managed a team and are passionate about building a team who share our values, and perform to our high standards.
Your key stakeholders are the VP of FCC Operations, the FCC Product Advisory Director, the Head of FCC, and the Product and Banking teams.
Key Areas of Responsibilities: As the VP for Financial Crime Compliance your key accountabilities include but are not limited to;
Designing and overseeing BVNK's global financial crime compliance operating model, ensuring adequate and effective systems and controls are in place, in compliance with local legislative and regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions the Group operates.Maintaining and where relevant enhance the financial crime compliance framework and related policies and processes, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are tailored to the business, while also enhancing operational efficiencies.Advising on financial crime risks associated with products, projects, change and growth initiatives.Responsible for the design and regular review of BVNK's financial crime risk methodologies.Leading the group's regular Financial Crime Risk Assessment exercise, including methodology enhancements, completion of the exercise and issuance of governance papers.Conducting regular monitoring, testing and reporting on the effectiveness of the financial crime compliance programme, including system and tools, and the day to day operation.Carrying out root cause analysis of identified issues or breaches of financial crime policies, procedures or regulations, to ensure that the cause is identified, understood, escalated and remediated.Accountable for external reporting in fulfilment of money laundering reporting and law enforcement agency liaison requirements.Deputise the Global MLRO when required.Responsible for liaising with the Legal and Regulatory teams for updates to BVNK's group regulatory matrix, in what concerns financial crime law and regulation requirements, and maintenance of BVNK's group financial crime regulatory reporting schedule, in all jurisdictions the Group operates.Working closely with senior management and Board to maintain and enhance the financial crime risk appetite.Advising on escalations by the Financial Crime Operations teams, including prospective and existing customer portfolio risks, adverse media, politically exposed persons, and sanctions and transaction monitoring (fiat and crypto).Approving higher risk customers escalated by the Financial Crime Operations teams.Working closely with the VP of Financial Crime Operations, ensuring feedback loops are established when weaknesses are detected, and bespoke awareness sessions, or any other appropriate action, are quickly completed.Supporting the Group MLRO determining whether or not suspicious activity reports have substance and require disclosure to the relevant authorities.Responsible for the relationship with banking partners in what concerns all financial crime matters.Accountable for the relationship with Banking, Product and the Financial Crime Transformation teams, ensuring 2nd line requirements are timely provided and understood by the business.Accountable for providing senior management and Board with timely updates on the financial crime compliance activities.Developing and embedding a culture of compliance through building strong relationships with relevant stakeholders and by rolling out a financial crime awareness programme across the Group.What we need from you: 10+ years' experience in a relevant financial crime compliance position at a payment/e-money institution, with exposure to correspondent banking risks, and desired exposure to digital assets risks.Extensive experience as an MLRO or Deputy MLRO role at a payment/e-money institution.Experience with financial crime risks associated to cryptoassets is desirable.Excellent knowledge of legal, regulatory, and industry requirements, and business processes, standards, policies and procedures relating to financial crime.In-depth knowledge of Fund Transfer Regulation.Proven experience designing, planning and rolling out financial crime operating models and risk frameworks.Extensive experience performing risk assessments and drafting policies from scratch.Ability to translate regulatory requirements for senior and junior audiences.Demonstrated risk-based decisioning and strategic thinking.Must have prior exposure to regulators.Should be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy and managing evolving priorities to deliver against the team's strategy.Should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving and demanding environment, often with competing priorities.Should be able to work effectively within a team, cross functionally, as
