The School of Cities at the University of Toronto is one of a kind, created to address the pressing issues facing urban areas to better cities and urban regions. As the innovation centre for the new science of cities, the School of Cities is a solutions incubator for urban-focused researchers, educators, students, practitioners and the general public to explore the complex global challenges facing urban centres. Your opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Academic Director and Executive Director, the Videographer will be responsible for determining the best format to engage audiences, and be responsible for the entire life cycle of a video product, from storyboarding, filming, editing, sound editing, animation, and post-production - both short and long form. The role of the Videographer will demonstrate a keen understanding of urban issues, and help us to focus on broadening the reach of scholarly work to affect changes in public understanding and awareness of critical urban issues, leading to policy improvements, community engagement, and industry decisions. That means meeting our audience where they are, helping them to understand esoteric concepts that might inform their work; advocating actionable changes based on research insights; supporting advancements that create real positive change for communities.
The Videographer will work with the core School of Cities team of staff and faculty, especially our knowledge translation and comms teams, to amplify our academic work and connect with change-makers who are committed to improving cities.
Your responsibilities will include: Planning and implementing components of digital media communications projectsPlanning and developing pre-production video ideas into outlines, scripts, and storyboardsProducing promotional and outreach materialsKeeping well-informed on applicable copyright, access and privacy lawsConducting photography and/or videography shootsEditing post-production audio and/or visual materialObtaining waivers from subjects prior to photo and video shootsMaintaining a repository of digital media recordsEssential Qualifications: Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in video production, media arts, or film, or equivalent related experienceMinimum five years (5 years) in video editing and productionDemonstrated expert proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud – Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Media EncoderDemonstrated creative ability in scriptwriting, storyboarding, motion graphicsStrong technical skills with professional cameras and grip/lighting gearExperience in leading projects independently and collaborating within teamsDemonstrated ability to manage projects successfully within tight timelines in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated understanding of current urban issues and challengesFlexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed and willingness to travel to shoot locations and events across Southern OntarioAssets (Nonessential): To be successful in this role you will be: ArticulateMulti-taskerResourcefulTactfulTeam playerNotes: This is a full-time term role ending December 2025This role requires the successful candidate to work some evenings and weekendsThis role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto's Alternative Work Arrangements GuidelineClosing Date: 11/13/2024, 11:59PM ET
