**Role Overview**
The Vice President of Finance will lead financial management and strategy, responsible for day-to-day financial planning and budgeting, international financial operations, grant and contract finances, internal and external financial reporting, and working with cross-functional teams to develop project budgeting and pricing strategy.
The VP of Finance will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and provide financial leadership across the organization, including internal control, risk management, accounting, and finance.
**Responsibilities**
Lead and manage a team responsible for all finance, accounting, budgeting, reporting, tax, and regulatory compliance functions, including financial planning, modeling, and budget processes.
Manage cash flow and balance sheet prudently to ensure sufficient cash runway.
Prepare financial briefs for the Management Team in advance of monthly meetings and organizational planning discussions.
Manage the monthly and quarterly close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Prepare quarterly financial and budgetary reports for clients, customers, and stakeholders.
Collaborate with Business Development and Legal teams to optimize contracting, drive efficiency, financial performance, and compliance.
Evaluate proposed contract modifications to ensure alignment with organizational cash flow and financial growth.
Develop and manage documentation of internal controls, policies, and procedures aligned with GAAP standards and compliance.
Manage tax consulting, banking, and audit relationships to ensure tax and regulatory compliance in various jurisdictions.
Supervise accounts receivable, billing processes, payment collections, and accounts payable.
Develop and implement an Indirect Cost Management strategy to reduce and manage indirect costs.
Lead cross-functional initiatives to advance strategically important business needs, including optimizing pricing methodology, leading startup of subsidiaries, and exploring new business models and revenue channels.
Develop and improve internal tools and operational processes, including ERP systems and associated business operations.
Support equity and debt financing efforts, including discussions with existing and potential investors/debtors.
Recruit, interview, hire, and develop finance and accounting staff as required.
**Requirements**
Masters Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
10 years of experience serving in a managerial role, specific to financial operational management, accounting, and financial planning and budgeting for a growth-stage technology company.
Experience developing and managing documentation of internal controls, policies, and procedures aligned with GAAP standards and compliance.
Expertise in software business models and milestone accounting.
Experience in equity and debt financing and due diligence process.
Experience managing and designing internal control processes and external audits.
Experience with long-term strategic financial planning for growth organizations.
Experience managing accounting teams, cash flow, and annual operating plans.
Experience developing and refining internal financial management tools to improve accuracy and management of company and project finances.
Experience working with bilateral development organizations and multilateral development organizations.
Experience with grant management and financial reporting for donor-funded projects.
Experience liaising with customer and partner finance teams, local grantees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to address cost and pricing considerations.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in international settings and familiarity with organizations in the international development sector.
Solution-oriented, strategic thinker with ability to identify and address challenges.
Proven track record demonstrating sound judgment and exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent writing skills with ability to distill complex financial scenarios for management review and approval.
Analytical thinker comfortable working with quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Demonstrated experience in global health.
Proficiency in US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Experience working with institutional donors, key funding partners.
Hands-on approach with a proactive and practical work style.
Proven leadership experience, including managing teams or projects.
Ability to report directly to senior executives, including the CEO and CFO.
Flexibility to work across various time zones, particularly Africa and the USA.
