Job Description Vacancy: VOHE Leader (D Upper) Location : Modikwa Platinum Mine Closing Date : 26 January 2025 Position Overview The VOHE (Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Engineering) Leader holds legal accountability under Section 12.1 of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
This role entails managing and coordinating all ventilation and occupational hygiene systems, programs, and departmental functions.
The goal is to ensure a safe, healthy work environment, minimize litigation risk, and uphold the company's standards and reputation.
Key Responsibilities Translate organizational strategies into actionable HRD plans.
Develop and manage Occupational Hygiene and Ventilation systems and long-term strategies.
Formulate policies, procedures, and standards in conjunction with Specialists.
Ensure legal compliance with group standards and policies.
Oversee and manage: Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene programs.
Risk assessments and SHE compliance.
Emergency Preparedness Programs.
Ventilation construction planning and coordination.
Conduct audits, research, and surveys for VOHE projects.
Manage equipment and instruments for ventilation and hygiene.
Provide training and mentorship for team members.
Interpret and enforce ventilation and occupational hygiene legislation.
Requirements Minimum Requirements Education : Degree in Occupational Hygiene or related science at NQF Level 7.
COM Advanced Certificate in Mine Environment (NQF Level 6).
Advantageous: Diploma in Environmental Health.
Professional Membership : Member of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa and/or registered Occupational Hygienist with SAIOH (advantageous).
Experience : Minimum of 7 years in Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene.
At least 5 years in a mining and/or concentrating plant environment.
Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating VOHE systems and databases.
Knowledge : Comprehensive understanding of: Occupational Health Legislation.
Occupational Hygiene and Ventilation Engineering Principles.
Palladium Hygiene Programme.
Safety, Health, and Environmental integration experience (advantageous).
Skills : Advanced computer literacy (MS Office Suite).
Risk assessment and management expertise.
Budget management and cost control.
Other : Valid Code 08 Driver's License.
