Contract type: Long Term Contract Period of Contract: 3 years Job Level: Junior Work Location: Cape Town, Western Cape The National Research Foundation (NRF) supports and promotes research and human capital development through funding, the provision of National Research Facilities and science outreach platforms and programmes to the broader community in all fields of science and technology, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities. The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) spearheads South Africa's activities in the Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope, commonly known as the SKA, in engineering, science and construction. SARAO is a National Facility managed by the National Research Foundation and incorporates radio astronomy instruments and programmes such as the MeerKAT and KAT-7 telescopes in the Karoo, the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) in Gauteng, the African Very Long Baseline Interferometry (AVN) programme in nine African countries as well as the associated human capital development and commercialisation endeavours. The main purpose of this role is to carry out timely and quality planned, preventative and emergency maintenance on all equipment and buildings for SARAO Sites in Cape Town. Key Responsibilities: Perform tasks in accordance with job cards or work orders issued, as per client and company requirements. Conduct investigations, evaluations, and restorations on identified equipment malfunctions. Carry out minor repairs and servicing on all electrical equipment and appliances as per SLA. Perform office movement related tasks, including but not limited to repairs and maintenance. Carry out minor repairs and servicing on all plumbing related equipment as per SLA. Perform tier 1 inspections and repairs on all air-conditioning related equipment. Carry out inspections and report back on all fire and access equipment. Perform H&S maintenance on the building and equipment. Ensure that access control and CCTV equipment are inspected and maintained at all times. Provide constant feedback to the Site Service Supervisor on restoration status of operations. Vehicle maintenance and cleaning. Participate in planned/unplanned projects. Key Requirements: Qualification: Grade 12. N2/N3 Technical certificate (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or HVAC). Trade Test will be advantageous. Experience: 3 years experience in building maintenance, air-conditioning, electrical, water reticulation, and grounds maintenance. Basic training on hand tools, electrical, and mechanical equipment. Valid driver's license and 2 years of driving experience. Knowledge: Knowledge in building maintenance (painting, tiling, woodwork, plastering, bricklaying, and civil work). Knowledge in reading schematic drawings. Knowledge of OHS Act and ISO9001.
