Responsibilities: The Head of the School will be responsible for providing the academic vision and leadership required to enable the school to establish and maintain a position of excellence within the University, GDOH, and in the wider educational context.
This will involve the oversight of all academic activities inclusive of teaching and research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and student-related and administrative matters within the school, including human resources, financial management, and general administration. The Head of School will need to be involved in strategic engagement with the Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH) and all the academic hospital training facilities and build and maintain productive relationships with all relevant stakeholders in the Health Sector.
The Head of School will be responsible for the development and promotion of academic excellence within the cluster and school to maintain the position of excellence and diversity.
Qualifications and Experience: A specialist medical degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 10 years of experience in university administration at a senior level are essential requirements, and a PhD or strong research background and scientific publication record. The person should currently hold the position of Adjunct Professor/Associate Professor/Professor.
The applicant must have excellent leadership, interpersonal, and managerial skills and should have attained sufficient academic and professional standing to command the respect of the members of the school.
The successful candidate will be appointed as Head on a fixed-term, full-time basis for a period of five years. During this tenure, the candidate is required to focus exclusively on this role and must not hold any other position concurrently. The position is renewable for another 5-year period subject to the applicable policy of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Should the appointee be from outside the University, the appointee will be transferred to a continuous academic post at an appropriate level within the appropriate discipline, at the end of the successful term/s of office.
