Minimum Requirements:National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technical CertificateProven laboratory experience (1-2year), particularly in molecular biology, immunology, or related techniques.Experience with human samples handling, ELISA techniques and cell culture (desirable)Ability to work according to standard procedure protocolsComputer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Internet; Data Management Systems advantageous)Knowledge of medical terminology (especially TB/HIV/COVID-19)Proactive, with the ability to self-manageExcellent organisational and detailing skills The following will be advantageous:Good Clinical Practice CertificationHPCSA registrationProficiency in managing biorepositoriesKeen interest in Research (particularly Allergy, Immunology and Dermatology) Responsibilities include (but not limited to):Assisting with logistics regarding appropriate collection, transport and storage of specimensEnsuring appropriate processing of specimens in the laboratoriesPerforming relevant scientific experiments in line with needs of specific research projects.Maintaining study specific laboratory working files with all the relevant documentationEnsuring good Quality Assurance and Quality ControlOrdering laboratory supplies, as neededKeeping detailed and accurate records of laboratory activitiesCompile monthly reports on diagnostic tests run in the laboratoryAdditional Information:12-month Fixed Term ContractWorking hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to FridayPosition will be based at Groote Schuur Hospital, ObservatoryOnly shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
